Starting up a new thread for the new year, please be so kind and post your house plants, Begonias and other lovelies into this new thread.

Starting up with one of @901Bertwood pretty Begonias

Here's a few pictures of begonias transplanted today.
B. Caravan. Oops found out that this is really probably B. decora from the Begonia Society website pictures.





Also of a B. Rex variety unknown, where I got from Lowes clearance table today. I love the cane type my gm grew but haven't found any source close by for a day trip.

Wow, that one's really cool, Ted. I love the textured leaves on Bert's above, too. Here are a couple of mine, sorry the light was really poor this morning. Looks like it wants to rain again here.
NoID from Home Depot with wild leaves. Don Miller has small leaves and tiny flowers, Odorata alba smells nice in the mornings.

Elaine, beautiful, do you have these in the ground outside? Ted, I like the chocolate and green contrast, is it a terrarium plant?

I have seen them that way, but I have it outside year round. It its protected from direct sunlight but gets lots of air movement and bright shade. It sits between a phal and another begonia

Yes, Bert my begonias are outside. I don't actually have any "house plants" because I feel they harbor bugs in the house. So all my house plants are in pots out in the landscape. Begonias, especially the cane begonias, do really well in this climate. I sink the pots into the soil in summer to keep them a bit cooler. In winter they get moved to shelter when the temperatures dip into the 30's like they are predicted to do this week . ..

We get random offerings at the big box stores of some really great begonias. That first one above was in a 3inch pot when I brought it home. I promptly divided it and made a dozen separate plants from that one little pot. There are 3 plants in the pot in the picture.

Other houseplants that I have…And I say other because my Orchids are houseplants as well…Especially this time of year, and with our temps bottoming out tonight at about 18*-24* predicted. I don't have enough room for a greenhouse, so ….They live in my living room window. I guess it's a good thing that my "collection" is small…So far!

All the others, I'm afraid, will have to stay out, covered very well, or in the garage. Also covered well.

Yep, we have maybe another couple of hours of warmth, then we'll get a short rain and the cold behind that. I am leaving everybody outside as long as possible, but . . . not long now before I'll begin moving stuff and covering up.

Love that 'Sophie Cecile' Tara. I have that one too. It gets really big!

I have a huge plant of 'Maurice Amy' which is another with small leaves, but fabulous pink color as the weather warms up. This pot has three cuttings started. They will go under cover tonight, too. Right about now I start looking around again for "where to put a greenhouse". But really, I would only use it occasionally so . . . schlepping plants around will continue.

Oolala!!! Love the 'Maurice Amy'! The only other Begonia I have is a NOID that my sister gave to me…It's a Rhizome type that was growing on her property when she bought the house. I really like it anyway!

Hello, we came over to 2014 with an idea of putting my humidity loving begonia (above picture) into a glass ball bowl terrarium, looked so pretty! We'll on inspection, it is rotted from the mid stems, I did not water it from the time I planted it but it probably was to damp. I could not save the remaining rhizomes. I tried drying them off, I believe that I planted the rhizomes under the potting soil. Maybe that was the problem, I should have waited for roots to start up before placing the rhizomes that close to tip growth into the media.

I agree with you, Bert, never bury the whole Rhizome, just enough to hold it self up. I have found that the Begonias I grow like a breeze. I would think it would be tough to grow in a terrarium because of no drainage. But then again, the only plant I have grown in a glass bowl was a succulent that was mostly hanging out.

I like to park Begonias right under the Vandas, they seem to like the daily showers. But they are draining well, sitting on a rack.

Outside is still cold Winter here in NJ, but the top shelf in the greenhouse says Springtime! ( Where this one sat all indoor season along with similar plants.)
Here is Pachypodium eburneum in bloom this week. Note the plant is not totally "filled-out", since I water my Pachypodiums only sparingly in Winter.

Outstanding, Ursula. My Pachys got fooled with that 7 day or so cold snap we had in the fall. Shed the leaves and went to sleep for the winter. But since it has been so warm for so long, they are starting to grow leaves again. Do you think I should water normally because of the growth or stay with the keep it drier in the winter rule.

I usually follow their lead, if they are growing leaves I would probably increase water slightly. Unfortunately they may have skipped their blooming season.
