Part1. I thought I would show you where I have got to with Coleus. The cat is extra. So many of the cuttings are moving on well. They are all noids (?) except for one.

Thank you Allison. There are so many. I try to keep 3 of each cultivar going at once at different ages. However, many of the clippings take root that I leave about.
I am also trying to do some decorative pots a-la Jo Ann. These I am just starting. The ibis have been a pain using their long beaks to search the potting material for worms and insects. Sometimes they just decide to remove all the leaves....
I have to try good shade on some of these, too, to see what they look like without so much sun. I haven't got used to matching colours and, next, they are different because of where I put the pots.

Part 3.

Last April we had 4' wide bluestone paths laid by the old daylily gardens at one side of the house. I used mainly coleus to line the paths. They were ultra fantastic so I potted many up to hold over and last night took at least 100 cuttings. I'll keep doing that until I'm done and I'll definitely have enough for this year! I love that the deer won't touch them. We humans have to win a battle now and then.

Just discovered the Coleus forum a few weks ago & skimmed thru 2013. You all have some beautiful plants.
When I lived in HI 20+years back I had Coleus "trees" outside my front door. They were amazing. I kept pinching off the blooms & they kept getting fuller & taller.
I'm not good on the "real" names. I do keep the tags but they tend to get burried under the plants. Every year i say I'm going to get better at recording what I have.......maybe this year!!!!

We had an unusually bad freeze (worst nite was 27 for over 12 hrs) last week. I have a "watermellon" coleus. Grows low to the ground and spreads out. Small leaves w/curly edge. I took cuttings & then dumped 2 bags of leaves on top of the center of the plant. I am happy to report the center of the plant seems to be fine. The 2 other NOIDs I have I coverd with lg trash cans. Not sure of their fate (but I have cuttings). They dropped their leaves but the stems appear to be OK. Time will tell.
Blessed are the Quilters for they are the Piecemakers.

This appeared in one of my pot plants as a little plant. It apparently must have got there by seed. But it matches none of the many plants I have. Can new cultivars just happen in one's garden?

I am not an expert.. but I know it wouldn't happen in my environment.. too slow growing and it's too cold here.. I don't see why not in Glen's warm temps

You're right. I guess if we missed a coleus flower that went to seed early in the season, it might be possible. We have many coleuses at the kitchen window but one keep sending up flowers and I keep removing them and cutting it back. It's done it since September.

Took even more cuttings during the week. They're all doing so well.
