I liked the flower of 'Glorious Sky', but don't care for a 40" height.

Betty, I was just on their site doing some window shopping. Have you ordered from them before? I'm looking at some a bit older than this year, since they are also a lot cheaper!

Schreiner's has been around for a long time and they are considered premiere iris hybridizers and growers. I don't purchase iris now, but I have purchased from them many times and they are excellent to deal with.

Thanks Betty! That is great to know. I haven't bought any iris in years, because I didn't have room, and I always ended up with the wrong iris. I've had very bad luck when it comes to that! So, this looks sounds like a safe place to buy from! For some reason, I can no longer live without an orange reblooming iris! Hilarious!

Natalie -- in what way did you have "bad luck" with Iris? Iris are *almost* indestructible -- what went wrong?

Schreiner's is on at least its 3rd generation of operation. Very reliable.

Yep, Schreiner's is definitely one of the top-drawer iris sellers. Their sterling reputation is part of what you pay for, I think. There are also lots of other good sellers who can be counted on to sell true-to-name irises for quite a bit less. But it's hard to find anything bad to say about Schreiner's.

Mary Ann, my bad luck has been with getting the wrong iris. I can easily grow them, but they are never the right color. So, I gave up buying them if they weren't blooming at the time. I honestly don't care if they are named or not. I just want them to be the right color. I found a few on Schreiner's site that were very affordable, and were also very pretty!

Hello Natalie. I have had that same issue in the past with two iris farms. I have learned to keep my tags and order forms with the order number and contact them when the iris turns out to be the wrong one. The vendors are always apologetic and anxious to help resolve the situation. However, this is not the case when buying bargain irises from places like Wal-Mart. I have bought irises there several times and I was just buying a 'pig in a poke', or something I cannot see and am taking my chances on. These have never been the iris they were labeled and now we refer to these irises as 'guess whats' when we see them in the big box stores. However, I have to say this has never happened to me with an iris from Schreiner's. They never sell tiny starts, or 'tired' rhizomes so I guess you get what you pay for. And, yes they do carry some that are older and not as expensive as the new introductions because they are beautiful and people like me buy them. smiles.

Hi Bonnie, I've never ordered iris on the internet before. I always bought them locally from various nurseries where I used to live. Never bought any from Walmart, or a big box store. Just small places, and they couldn't actually fix the problem, since they no longer trusted the tags on the plants. But, they gave me a free plant of my choice in exchange, and didn't want the iris back. So, I really didn't lose any money. I just ended up with something that got moved to a friends house because the color was totally wrong, or it stayed in my yard because it was pretty, even if it wasn't what I was wanting to begin with. I'm not an iris hybridizer, and really don't care about the name, or if they are registered or not. A pretty face works well for me, so old is just fine!

I have only gotten one incorrect iris from Schreiners, and they replaced it right away, no questions asked. You will want to check the data base here to see what the colors are like from more then one source, as I have found that Schreiners pictures are somewhat different then the actual flower.

Thanks Tom. I always do that with daylilies, since I very much like to see what the plants look like in all the other yards. Some sellers do too much photoshopping with their pictures, and by the time they are done, they don't come close to resembling the actual bloom. I have always just assumed that the same was true for all plants.

I have bought 100's of iris over the the last 40 years but have been selective about my sources and have never had problems with getting the wrong iris. I buy from top sources like Keppel, Ghio, Superstition, Mid-America, etc. Also at my local iris society auction............Utah Iris Society purchases a number from the top hybrizers for the annual sell. I also exchange with trusted friends. I agree with what Tom said about some pictures not being the most accurate and have bought things that turned out not to be as pretty as the picture and other things that I think are better. Some of the pictures see here on ATP are better to my eye......I really dislike doctored pictures.

Thanks Paul, I appreciate the names of other sellers that you have bought from. I know we have discussed my bad luck before! I found out last night that there is an Iris Society up north, I think in Spokane, and they are having a sale in June. I am going to do my best to be there for that. Sounds like a really good place to start, and the prices are very affordable - almost too affordable - at $1 to $3 per rhizome. I'm expecting lots of older varieties, and plenty of NOID's, but that is fine with me, as long as the color is correct. The sale is in June, so maybe some of them will even be in bloom.

The society itself may not have photos but if you ask, I bet some members will have them at the sale. Iris society plants have been dug from members' gardens & it the people are there, can tell you if the color is correct. It is good to know the name, because if you lose a plant you know what to look for to get a replacement.

Thank You! Hopefully they will have tags, and be the right plant! Or at the very least, the right color! At those prices though, it's not going to hurt if I get an oops!
