The red one is gorgeous, and it was on the website last year. It's a Ted Petit seedling. I asked him last year when it would be introduced, and he said, "when I have enough plants," or words to that effect.

I totally love that red one in particular too! Kathy, if you do get to go, if you can please see what you can find out about that one -- like does he have a name for it already, etc. What a gorgeous pattern!

I took 120 photos Friday and 306 today, but it will take a while to edit them - my camera produces 3 megabyte images, and I have to cut them down a bit. Today (Saturday) was a really fun day. We left home at 8, got home at 6:30 pm, and covered 6 gardens and 191 miles. My feet feel it.

Saw some gorgeous blossoms. Met some nice people. There were folks from Arkansas; Indiana; and other places touring.

While taking a break for lunch in a McDonalds on I-4, I noticed this outside the window. I think the following pictures clearly define stupidity/insanity:

John, I don't know if it is an urban legend, but I remember hearing years ago, that shoes thrown over electric/ phone lines is a sign for those looking to buy/ sell drugs. I don't know if it is true or not, or if as you said, it's just people being stupid.

Someday I will manage to go to Mecca.

Someday.

Until then I will need to live vicariously through those that do go. So keep posting your thoughts and photos please ~Jan

I hadn't heard that particular legend. I was dumbstruck at the sheer insanity of climb up a high-voltage transmission tower - and the perpetrator would have to have climbed the tower to place those tennis shoes.

We're lucky enough to be close to the Mecca. Both Petit and Cross Border gardens are in our county; and Salters are in the next county to the north.

I don't know whether the out of state visitors flew down for the occasion, or arranged vacations in the Orlando area near the time of the event. I think the folks from Arkansas drove.

Today, Nicole's is one county to the east, and four of the others are about 55 miles away.
All of which means that attending isn't a problem.

Meanwhile, running several hundred photos through photoshop is tedious and time-consuming, but pictures will be forthcoming.

This just in. I sent an e-mail to a friend in the Philippines, who responded that it means the same thing over there - drugs..... That's halfway around the world.

Mecca day one.

Here are a few photos from Le Petit Jardin in McIntosh, Florida. Sorry, it just wasn't possible to identify the pictures - I'd have needed a servant of some sort to follow me around making notes <G>. I took pictures of things that caught my eye, the first of which was breakfast!!! It was under an extended awning, and partly in the shade. There were scrambled eggs; sausage; biscuits; rolls; pastries; and best of all - Bacon (an indulgence I don't allow myself often). There was also orange juice and bottles of Champagne if you wanted to have Mimosas, but it was a bit early in the day for me to start drinking (9 AM). Ted is a gracious host, and extremely casual about the free daylily plants which were in a Rubbermaid container by the entrance so one could help oneself.

Cross Border daylilies.

John Peat didn't have anything to show last year, because his water system had failed in February, and a neighbor didn't notify him. The garden was devastated. It's showing a bit of a comeback this year, but will be another year or so before it's up to speed.
