I really love the combination of hellebores and daffodils. Maybe it's because I have the same combination in my garden! Hurray! Hurray! Thumbs up

Hurray! So glad to hear that Jean. I am new to this combination. I planted that hellebore last fall, forgetting that I had bulbs close by. A lucky accident for me.
I would love to see a photo of your combination. Hurray!

Thank you Seedfork. Sometimes accidents can be a good thing. I should have taken a photo today. The sun was out and the tulips opened up. Maybe tomorrow.

@valleylynn Several photos with hellebores and daffodils

Thumb of /2014-04-08/rocklady/9da3d3

I have found some daffodils that have "escaped" our property and will dig them up and plant them among the hellebores.

Jean those are wonderful photos. You encourage me to do more of that combination. I have an area right now that already has Hellebore 'Double Queen'. I think I will transplant some of my solid yellow daffodils next to it. And maybe plant some of the deep purple leaved violets at the base of them.

@valleylynn Because we live in a wooded area, I tend to let Mother Nature sow seeds for me. In fact, the plants in the second photo can't be attributed to me, but to Mother Nature herself.

Wow, I had no idea they could do that. I have some hellebore blooms right now that are already developing huge seed pods. Do I just let them develop until completely dry/ripe, then scatter them in my woodland?

@valleylynn, when these pods get dry they pop and some of their seeds are really shot a long distance. If you have a particular place you want them, you might gather some and scatter them. When we first moved here, there was a large drainage pipe running underneath part of our yard. Where the water came out I followed its path and put stones in what I call my creek. The picture I showed of the self sown hellebores somehow jumped the creek and are now on the other side.

I wonder how long it takes for them to get to blooming size?
I took some photos of the seed pods a few minutes ago. Hope this works, and who knows what will come from the seed?
Black Diamond, the color is washed out now that the flowers are old. There is a ton of seed pods. No idea how many seeds per pod?

Winter Jewels 'Rose Quartz'. Sure wish I had taken a photo of this one when the bloom was in it's prime. It was lovely. http://www.northwestgardennurs...

@valleylynn Beautiful pictures! I don't think it takes but a couple of years for them to reach blooming size. They have lots of seeds. Several years ago, I raked the leaves away from the plants, and the ground was green with little plants. The only problem with that is the fact that it is so rocky, they are really hard to get out. I have given them to several of my neighbors and I think they have bloomed in a couple of years.
Thumb of 2014-04-13/rocklady/983f40 Here is a picture of my "creek." I still have to pull some weeds and grass out before the rains come and water everything. Just to the right across the creek is a mahonia that is a volunteer, probably from my neighbor's bush.

Jean, what a beautiful area. I would love to spend time in that lovely woodland.
I will definitely give it a try on just broadcasting the seed as soon as it is mature. Let nature take care of the rest.
Thank you for the inspiration.

Lynn. You are welcome. We had rain today and my little "creek" is flowing! I would take a picture, however, it is still raining and it is almost dark. I prefer just broadcasting the seeds and see what happens.
