My woodland garden is quite rustic with branches laid across and through beds to keep the big dog(s) from running through the beds. It has helped keep them to the paths. The little dogs not so much so. Glare The beds also are outlined with branches or small logs. This section of garden is beginning its second year so I am hoping it will fill-in more. Once the hostas are up I will have a better idea what other plants to incorporate. It will never be tightly landscaped, but more of an organized wild area with ornamentals and my favorite natives.

Julia your recovery ones look better then any on my property right now. Your others look great , what nice color. Havana and Mint Julep were ones that could not handle the heat of summer here , they went downhill as soon as it hit the 90's the year I had them.

Mint Julep is such a pretty one but I have tried 3 times with that one. Buying it from 3 different sources and 3 different locations in my yard, goners every time.
Seems to like the greenhouse. Whistling Havana just tried 2 times and I'm moving on. None of those city series did to well for me.

Julia - your recovery ones look better than some of mine as well. I did notice yesterday when I was out walking around the back yard, that my tiarellas seem to be putting forth growth right now.

Finally had a chance to spend some time in the gardens, not a pretty sight. It appears that none of my Heucherella survived the winter . Also lost many Heuchera , Hellebore and Tiarella. Also many of the ones that survived were frost heaved, now I have to hope they survive the replanting. I have to hope that the sun garden does better.

Bob - so sorry. That really stinks. How many plants do you think were affected?

I noticed there seemed to be quite a bit of heaving this past winter as well. I thought because we were not in the freezing thawing cycles that there would have been less heaving.

Julia - some look great and are trying to color up. Some don't look so good - I don't think they have all made it, but I do know there are some that need to be replanted because of heaving. I would have done that this past weekend, but had family in town for the weekend. It is always good to see my brother and his family. nodding
