That's beautiful, Tee. I've never grown any of the hardy ones, but I might do that this year.

Sounds irresistible. I don't think I ever see them locally here. Can you recommend a good mail-order nursery for these?

I'll have to think on it. At the moment, I can't remember where I got mine.

Wow, Tee! Your plant looks perfect! Green Grin!

Zuzu,
Santa Rosa has it:

It's also a seed variety so you can buy seeds. If you're not too concerned about slight color differences, then I bet you could get some garden-collected seeds in trade.

Thanks, Danita. Good source for the West.

I saved seeds but then didn't want to send them out because I was concerned about color differences. I don't think I still have any.

Actually, Santa Rosa Gardens is in Florida. I assumed they were in California when I first heard the name, too.

I bet there are closer sources for Zuzu, but I just remembered seeing it on the SRG website so thought I'd mention it.

I bet most people wouldn't mind color differences..... just weevils! (ewww, hate those things! )

It's a shame it isn't in Santa Rosa, which is only 7 miles from my house, but I do order from Santa Rosa Gardens every year when they have their sale, so I probably will order it from them this year.

I said I've never seen it locally, but the truth is that I've never looked for it locally. It may be offered by every nursery here. Big Grin I tend to buy only groundcover plants, so that they can fill the spaces between my roses without obscuring them. This looks like a good candidate to take the place of an ailing rose bush, however.

My favorite would have to be Plum Crazy. I've only had it for 2 years, so it's not a very full plant yet. But the few blooms that I get are so pretty.

These Hardy Hibiscus are just one of the most beautiful plants, with such large blooms they are unbelievable. I have most likely 20+ and like everyone of them. Have had so may people stop by and ask what kind of plant they are. ( Just tickles me to death when they do). These are a high recommendation of mine.

I love the Plum Crazy .. hoping someone gets some seed from it so I can trade! I noticed yesterday one of my Luna Pink Swirl is pushing up new shoots! Our colder than normal winter seems to have killed the branches on my Confederate Rose .. no new growth there but new growth coming out of the ground.

Anne, I'm a little colder than you and mine dies to the ground every year. It blooms so late in the season that frost always cuts the show short. I'm going to try growing one or two in pots. Maybe I can get some spring blooms. It seems to favor cooler weather.

That happens to me too .. maybe a few blooms then frost .. last year I fed the bajeebers out of it, some of that shake n feed stuff as well as a shot of miracle grow every week in mid August. The buds seemed to mature faster and bloom better on the old wood. It will be interesting this year to see if the same treatment works for blooms on new growth.
