Violets staking claim in my garden; near invasive as they expand by very viable seed and i think maybe root systems; any speck left in the
ground regenerates a new plant.
they have some positive aspects too; if channeled properly they can establish assize colonies to cover difficult fringe area as a grown cover; the flowers are purportedly candy for adventuresome be-lovers of sugared blooms, they're pleasant to see, and harbingers of good spring fast approaching. There's a lot of wild violets in this area.

They look like they would be a pretty ground cover.

I think so. It seems people either love them or hate them. They do tend to spread everywhere by underground stolons/runners but they are easy to pull up.

We have a lovely one too, Native Violet (Viola hederacea). Wonderful groundcover. Same complaints about it.

Yes, very pretty. Mine are Viola papilionacea.

Wow, $4.30 for a pot, Glen. Are they not just about everywhere so they could be dug and transplanted?

Tee, I usually buy my native plants from a wonderful Redland City establishment called Indigiscapes. It has a huge native plant sale once a month. No more than $2.50 a pot. It is an excellent local government initiative.

But I just noticed that the Native Violet is supposed to be common on the island (after you mentioned the possibility). I will try and get some. My garden is a bit bare at the moment because I have had the yearly 'weed out the mint' attempt (sigh) and it would be good to get a ground cover going.

I love Violets too, I planted them as an edging on a new bed and the squirrels ate them all, they love that nice succulent heart.
By the way the leaves as well as the flowers are edible, very good in salads, but I guess the squirrels don't bother with bowls or dressing, they just enjoy" al naturel" Smiling

Those are beautiful!

Tiffany, isn't the world amazing. Our Australian native Arrowhead Violet Viola betonicifolia is host to a Laced Fritillary Butterfly.

At the library plant sale today, I picked up about 10 pots of Native Violets Viola hederacea.

I also got two pots of Arrowhead Violet Viola betonicifolia.
Two bottom right pots. Not flowering.

You have lots of interesting plants there. I also see a nice Bromeliad in the background. Green Grin!

It has lovely zebra barring. Unfortunately, it is one of those from Bunnings: lovely coloured label that just says "Bromeliad."
