It's beautiful! How many plants? Did you do any pinching? What kind of fertilizer?

Four plants in that white hanging container, as I bought it, so I really don't get credit for it. I don't know if it lived over the winter yet.

I didn't give it any food at all but did water it about twice a week.

Spectacular. I saw this listed in the Golden Harvest list of annuals and considered picking it as one of the 4 plants chosen from the last not a raffle raffle prizes.

Wow, I've never seen these in my garden centers! Good thing I have seedlings, I guess... I was trying to decide how to plant them, and with what. I have two, so since you have four, I was thinking to fill in with something like portulacas or petunias, maybe, if they don't mind sharing space... Thanks for responding so quickly!

The minute I spotted it, I bought it. It was growing at a local mom and pop nursery and I love shopping there.

I think portulacas wouldn't want the moisture that the Lophos wants. At watering time it took half a gallon at a time! It got only morning and very, very late afternoon sun.

I'm also in Zone 7a and would bring it inside (cut it back hard) in very early October to a sunny spot. Go very easy with the water as the weather gets colder and close to no water during winter - just a monthly cup should do it.

Seriously cut back. That can't maintain that growth indoors. I'd cut it to 6" in height. They will still drop leaves since the bottom leaves are the oldest.

I'm zone 7a and I unearth the tubers in fall, put them in a paper bag and store them over winter in a cool dark room, starting them back into growth indoors in February.
They really take over once they get growing, lovesblooms. I'm not sure how any companion would fare.

Oh, okay--well, they're also gorgeous alone, so I'm sure I wouldn't mind a take-over. I'll give them their own special pot, though, because I really want the black-eyed susan vines, too.

I ended up growing mine up arches. They got a very slow start so not many blooms, but I enjoyed the foliage all season--they covered the arches with those gorgeous velvety leaves! I have seed for this year, so I'll start them earlier and hope spring is warmer--but not too warm for poppies!
