I'm curious; what is everyone's toughest daylily? Mine is my Flore Pleno, which has survived pretty much everything nature could throw at it, extreme heat, extreme cold, even being partially freeze-rotted!

What is YOUR hardiest daylily?

Too early to tell, I am still crossing my fingers on some. Also, my gardens have been set up within the last 5 years, so for some, it is too new.

I do have old dips from the family property that used to be part of a daylily farm back in the 60's. They are no longer named or identified, but these are really tough daylilies.

The plants that rebounded the quickest for me this spring, and after the winter we had I would call them hardy, were LAVENDER HEARTTHROB, ABILENE LORI, LINDA'S MAGIC, and a seedling out of JELLY MAKER.

Surprisingly enough some of my seedlings from last year (all in raised beds) came back bigger and stronger than some of the named DL I've had for years! Off the top of my head I don't know what the crosses are but I'm sure looking forward to see what the blooms are like!

The seedlings that got thrown on the compost pile upside down and covered with weeds and garden trash and lawn clippings. The fans were growing under and up trying to grow right. Hilarious!

There was quite a bit of them growing in the pile and also in the woods where they fell on the other side of the pile. I actually went out there and dug them out and up and gave to our daylily club to use at one of our plant sales. At least I know they will survive being neglected in case the new owners don't do anything other than plant them Hilarious!

Silver Circus, I've had it since 1991 when I worked @ Carroll Gardens. I completely neglected it for years and it still bloomed. I'm a bit nicer to it now, sometimes I remember to fertilize it Sticking tongue out Also Siloam Toy Time, Vacation Cruise and Real Wind. I got those at the same time and gave them the same non-care. Since Then they have survived my neglect, drought, ice, blizzards, tornados, the Polar vortex and any thing else Ma Nature could throw at them. This year the real test will be if they tolerate deer munchin' them, since they all live in the front yard deer bed now. Blinking

This winter I discovered one side of the yard along the property line is a deer superhighway Crying The lawn is all tore up and they have been munching on the plants along the way. I also discovered they were hungry enough or brave enough to venture to the front porch and nibble on Candle Power midwinter. The backyard has a 4' fence which I know won't keep them out if they want in, but I'm hoping they will settle for whats out front. All the expensive stuff is in the back Blinking Whistling yard.

I'd have to say I was very surprised after I'd dug up Betty Warren Woods last year and gave it away for not having ever bloomed (otherwise a great daylily I really want in my garden!!). I'd left the spot bare as I was going to order a fan from a different seller than had supplied the original. But, this spring a new fan of it popped up in the old spot! It is very healthy and thriving ... but still no bloom yet. Just for the fact that it showed up again, I'll wait for a maiden bloom till end of summer ... then we may go into a "groundhog day" scenario of digging up and meeting again the next spring of every year! Rolling on the floor laughing
