Our temp has gone up by 30 degrees since Monday, and suddenly blooms are really starting to open.

BLUEGRASS CANDY

I also took a picture of the very first bloom on BLUEGRASS CANDY the other day when it was much colder, and it never quite opened that day.

It's great to see such a good example of the difference that temperature makes! I always worry when first-of-season scapes don't fare well, but like you have shown, once blooming weather really hits they usually get more consistent. We are on the cusp of it right now with some opening and some shrinking back (went from average 70 degrees in April to 95 today and forecast of 80s for May)... can't wait to see more blooms to cheer us all on! Spring has sprung. Group hug

Beautiful blooms!

Betty, it was lovely seeing your blooms with my lunch and coffee. Smiling

Nice photos
This was the second registered daylily to bloom for us, the rain had destroyed it so this is last an older photo.

Such a nice blend of colors! I hate hearing how many cultivars people are losing, though I suppose in a way you are also finding which ones are the very strongest in terms of weathering adversity. Did your Seedling A1 make it through all this without extra protections?

stilldew,
Strange, I looked this one up in the data base and there is one listing for 'Middendorffii' and one listing for 'middendorffii'.
'Middendorffii' shows to be "ORL2: Orange red light with markings, bitone, or polychrome" . 'middendorffii' has very little info, wonder if that is just an entry mistake.
stilldew's looks yellow to me.

My Middendorffii is not blooming yet but mine looks like stilldew's a yellow/gold color. It is one of the earliest to bloom in my garden.

Looks like cold weather is keeping her's from fully opening, I would love to see photos of it fully opened, I am thinking my first yellow NOID to open might look a lot like that.

This source lists it as being yellow, but I have seen it as orange also. To me it is a very bright yellow or gold.

Stilldew,
Yes, but that is the one without the capital "m" that is what I am questioning, it is very confusing. What I am wondering, is yours and Hemlady's the one without the capital "m" or without the capitol "M"?

Another BLUEGRASS CANDY - I sure like this one!

TET. ELFIN ETCHING

BRANTLEE PHILLIPS

WAXEN SPLENDOR - You're right Mike - I love it!

BUDDY'S BETSY - This is the correct name, isn't it Michele? Fantastic color!

RASPBERRY PRISM

EXOTIC DESIGN - A poly for my first bloom!

WILD AND WONDERFUL

At first I thought this was the wrong plant because I haven't seen rings in any pictures of it -- but I checked our database again and Fred's photo showed a hint of rings, so I think it's correct. Our weather has been bouncing up and down by around 30 degrees from day to day, and I'm sure that's why I got all these rings -- love 'em!

Can you see the bands of pale blue in some of the rings, particularly on the sepals? Wow!

I'm so drawn to Tet. Elfin Etching! Lovey dubby It is so nice to see that soft yellow and purple coloring rather than just a creamy white and lavender. I am always looking for cultivars that will show up in softer color ranges, so I'll have to try it out. Thumbs up

Seedford, my is the one with the small middendorffii. I didn't realize there really is one registered as Middendorffii. It is : (H. middendorffii × unknown).

oh, I know well. Species must be distinguished from hybrids! Because I am working with wild forms, I noticed that there are some ambiguities in the AHS and also in the database of ATP. Some species are not included and images are assigned unclear. I usually try to orient the Swiss "Plodeck". They have some taken from older Literarur and accordingly assigned.

In this I'm also assuming that it is the species. Here are the baskets under the buds up to 1.2 " (maximum).

Thanks han. Your photos do look very much like mine. It's good to hear that someone is still working with the species.

I agree It's amazing how many have begun working with species in the last couple of decades. Would be a neat new thread to start maybe? Thumbs up
