I saw a picture of Neon Flamingo, and it reminded me that I like bright colors in the mix of daylilies. I would love to see some of the photos of your brightest colored daylilies and a little note to describe how it does in the garden. Things like holds it color in the sun, multiplies well, holds blooms up above foliage, things like that. It could be a bright yellow, red, pink, anything that stands out as extra bright. Any favorites, maybe ones you thought would be bright and did not live up to the billing.

I love bright colors (drive a red car, too!) and my husband loves orange.

Here are a couple of my favorites. I'll download some more pics and see if there are others!

Parrot Moon. Took 2 years to settle in. Very good substance. Heavy ruffles!

Tropical Pleasure--have had it for years and it blooms like a fool. Heavy substance and holds it's color until I live head between 6 and 7 p.m. Color isn't quite right--it's a bright coral color.

Eloquent Cay. New for me this year. Also holds it's color well.

"Any favorites, maybe ones you thought would be bright and did not live up to the billing."

I'm certainly in agreement with "Spider Man", only the hottest, brightest days put it to the test. I've got one similar to Mary's Gold that barks from across the yard called "Golden Candles". I like 'em all but good bud count and strong color is what makes a favorite for me. Of what I grow those two put on a great show even when neglected (which, by the way, has been circumstantial , not intentional).

Reds though, in general, have been a consistent disappointment when purchased by nursery tag pictures alone more so than other colors IMHO. Definitely helps to either see them in person or repeatedly on the web to have a better idea of what they'll actually look like.

Certainly a let down when that "fire engine red" on the tag is more realistically burgundy. Sad

Frillylily,

Primal Scream

Yes, thanks for this one, it is has rust resistance, and according to all the comments is really a very bright orange and a standout in the garden.

Spider Man

Certainly like this selection, this is my type of plant. Rust resistance 1.0, has lots of flowers, early to mid season and makes a great clump, sounds like a perfect garden plant.

Mary's Gold

I like this one too, even it does not show rust resistance in the ranking, the comments say bright stand out color and grows fast, I like that.

Hudson Valley

Love the bright yellows, from the photos this one also creates lots of flowers, plus the comments state that it is very fragrant.

Mauna Loa

As far as bright color this one certainly fits the bill, not many comments in the data base, but looks like it might make lots of blooms looking at some of the photos, prone to rust, but that bright color might make it worth a try!

I would love to have any comments on this plants by anyone that grows them. Makes me realize that I should pay more attention to my plants and add comments when I add photos to the data base, I need to start taking notes on which ones multiply well, etc.

That bright color along with seven inch blooms, in bunches, would certainly be an attention grabber.

florange,
Thanks for those suggestions, having the pictures added is great, but the comments are the fantastic plus, wish everyone would add comments like that to the data base to go along with the photos, it is such a help knowing if a plant does well in the garden, or if it takes a while to establish itself and such info could keep someone like me from tossing a plant after the first year, when it needs more time to settle in and show its true potential. Great to know if the blooms have substance, if it holds the color etc. thanks for all that. I tip my hat to you.

Mauna Loa is a parent of Primal Scream unless my memory is lost today.
It got alot taller than Primal Scream and was the same color. It increased and bloomed well also.

Tropical Heatwave , anyone grow this and have pics, there are none in the data base?
no photo.

Edited to add: I found Tropical Heat Wave, the spelling was wrong, it is in the data base with pics!

Hot Toddy
:
This photo looks totally different than others in the data base, this would be a great bright color if it actually looked like this, Frilly was yours this bright?

Flames of Fortune:

In the photos this plant does not look very bright, but it seems to make lots of blooms, is it one of those plants that has to be actually seen to be appreciated?

Tropical Heatwave

South Seas is also a bright one that gets tall and blooms like crazy

Farmers Daughter had a bright color for me, but I only had it one year since I moved, so I cannot attest to it's performance.

Alabama Jubilee
Cinnamon Sunrise
Buttered Popcorn
Carmine Monarch
Rocket City
All of these get tall and have lots of blooms and increased well for me.

Seedfork,

Sue's pic from the database shows the excellent bud building GC does so well. I've never counted the branches and buds and it's pretty common with older varieties for it to be excluded from descriptions. Here's the only shot I've got on this computer. A clump near it's end, think it dates back to 2009. I've been busy with deaths, moves and other but this "division" is now rather huge. With only 2 registered kids it might difficult or just lost in time? I couldn't bear the thought of living without it. I put mine right outside my back door as it's the door I use most. This pic does show bud count by "lack of". Been meaning to paint that garage green...But for a plain old yellow, it's not so plain at all. Smiling
Thumb of 2014-05-19/Wes/e250ac

I'll be sure to get better pics of all of my daylilies this year. Of my meager collection of known, registered varieties Spider Man is first to show. That's hard to beat! Those first one or two blooms with fantastic bud count, you just know you're in for a show! Across the lawn and plants right beside it nothin' but buds, I'm like a kid on Christmas Morning. And of course, Spider Man peaking:

FrillyLilly,
Thanks for these suggestions, I really like a couple of them.

South Seas

This one is Nocturnal, not too familiar with those, but I suppose they just are opened early do they stay opened all day?

Farmer's Daughter

No comments on this one but the description does say "bright". It is an early bloomer according to the data.

Cinnamon Sunrise

Now this to me looks very bright. But there are no comments in the data base, I would love to know more about it, I do like the way it looks.

Buttered Popcorn

This would be good for my garden, 1.3 rust rating and 6 in blooms with bright color, also seems to put on a lot of buds.

Carmine Monarch

This one really appeals to me, 7.25 in blooms, EM season, and a fast increasing plant.

Rocket City

Except for the 5.0 rust rating, I have always wanted this plant, the comments say it multiplied so fast they could not control it, wow! It must really be a vigorous grower in the right situation.

Ironic how I'm seeing so many "wants" I never have purchased, example "Thin Man". (edit: Buttered Popcorn, if I had ever stumbled upon it I'd have tried it, by name alone it's just got to be good)

South Seas is a good one, I moved mine to the edge of what's going to be my shade bed. The colors are far more intense IMHO. From a short distance you can see there's a lot more going on with that bloom, it draws you in. I won't be moving it again. Once you reach it, the walk is worthwhile. How do you say subtle and intense in the same sentence? It's best how I would describe South Seas.

(My only nocturnal other than a tall species daylily I've not 100% identified. Neat if you wander the garden at night, and yes my blooms last the day on both. Great budding and fairly self cleaning compared to the yellow species specimen. I have them side by side).

I believe my Night Beacon has been overtaken by irises but it had great color. Blooms were on the small side to call it bold and my box store specimen was slow to multiply. I never saw it as a thriving clump. I placed it in good spot to test it magnetism, it's a worthy contender. I'll gladly try again but I'd purchase through a different means. I purchase no living plants at that particular box store and I won't name names (but not even annuals). Bulbs sure, living plants no.

I'll add my voice in agreement with those who like 'Mary's Gold'; the flower form may be older, but the color is strong and grabs you.

For bright yellows, I am partial to 'Osterized'. There are other yellow daylilies that I like, but I always look forward to FFO on this one. (I feel the same way about 'Sears Tower', but it is a golden yellow polychrome (as opposed to the lemon yellow of 'Osterized'), and 'Osterized' is brighter.)

'Osterized'

Reds can be all over the map in terms of color: coral red, orange red, red, "candle" red (whatever that is), burgundy red... To this day, there are only two red daylily cultivars (ignoring seedlings) that I can recall which grabbed my attention solely by virtue of their color. In each case the daylily grabbed me and reeled me in from a distance; one, from across the garden (on a Regional tour) and the other, from the opposite side of a daylily nursery. These are, respectively, 'Hotter Than July' and 'Justin Brent'. (I have a seedling out of 'Justin Brent' which I also like very much for its bright red color. It needs a little work; I hope that I can keep the color!)

I also have Rocket City, and love that one! It's very bright!
