Thank you. I am trying to replace some that I lost to that horrible winter we had. I have a few more coming from Santa Rosa that they had for 2.99. At least if I lose them I have only spent the cost of annuals.

Those 3 plant pots at Lowe's are a good bargain even at regular price. So far the store by me has not had them so far this year.

I am surprised Bob they had these the beginning of Spring and have them half off now. When I saw them for 14 and I saw how many I lost I was in the mood of "I am not going to buy another Heuchera" Then I saw them half off and Santa Rosa sale and I broke down.

I like these plants so much but I am going to stick to my "ONLY GOING TO PAY ANNUAL PRICE". Rolling on the floor laughing

It just breaks my heart when I pay 15.00 and 18.00 and see them dead at the end of winter. Most that are coming back are so small it is sad.

I know what you mean about the losses. I have to admit I have been putting them back on the counters at the garden centers where I used to buy every new one I saw. I keep thinking what if we have an other winter like that.

Those have not been good for me either. If you want a green and white variegated one 'Hercules' has been really good for me. None of the city series were great here, not sure I even have any at this time. The little cuties have been great but the lime green one still gets rust. Thumbs down Blondie is my favorite out of that group.

I didn't lose a single heuchera this winter, to my surprise, being buried under feet of snow (which, even though crushed them, was probably what saved them from the cold). Obsidian looked pretty bad but is back to its full glory. Sugar Plum and Berry Smoothie still haven't fully recovered, so I took a piece of crown from each and am trying to root them. Berry Smoothie is turkey necking so it needs to be rejuvenated anyway. Sugar Plum is starting to turkey neck, but not as bad as Berry Smoothie.

Hostas, potted hostas, are a totally different story. I lost more than half of them, including some I had growing in pots for the last few years. I lost a lot in pots last year to rot. I will not keep anymore hostas in pots over winter except for Praying Hands. All others go in the ground.

Interesting, thought hosta was so hardy. Sorry to heard about the loss of so many plants. I keep many plants in containers but I'm in zone 7. I find that heuchera get so much bigger in the ground but I guess that is true with any plant.

I'm amazed I did not lose any heuchera this past winter. It was unbelievably cold here in Minnesota. I actually lost a few a couple of winters ago when we had very little snow and almost no cold weather...got really bad frost heave. I'm happy the heuchera are so hardy, because I absolutely love them. Have maybe 20 cultivars and always look for more. I lean toward the big villosa varieties and those that have pink or red flowers. Brownies would be my favorite villosa (but I can't find them anywhere now!), and Regina, Splendens and Snow Angel are my favorites for colorful flowers.

I tried Snow Angel a couple of times never make it through the winter. I will not buy it again.

I was surprised I lost Southern Comfort it was so pretty for 2 years.

I lost Hosta praying hand but it was in a pot. I do not usually grow my Hostas in Pots I just never got a chance to plant last Fall.

Apparently heuchera like colder winters...I think I have lost two or three ever. That's good, cuz I would cover the whole yard with them if I could Big Grin

It might be the snow cover. We do not get a lot of snow and have a lot of freeze and thaw periods throughout the winter. It is not unusual for our temps to be in the 60s a couple of days and rain then freezing temps for the next week.

Our winters are not constant cold and snow. We get rain, freezing rain, snow, cold then warm then back again to the up, down temps.

I agree

I got a couple of these new heuchera last year - wasn't sure how I would like them, but they are turning out to be favorites. Pinot Bianco. The photo doesn't show the flowers very well, but they are white with a tinge of pink at the base. And I really like the foliage colors.
