Would any of you care to share some photos of the growth on your rhizomes that were planted last season. I have some that have increased quite well Hurray! , while I have a few that are asleep at the wheel. Glare I also have a few that bloomed, but so far, are showing no sign of any increases (Hello Darkness and Swingtown). Sad

I know some increase faster than others, I'm just curious is all.

I misplaced the charger for my camera battery, so I can't share any photos at this time. *Blush*

My Midnight Oil shares the traits of Hello Darkness and Swingtown! Crying But I have a mixed bag other than that. Will try and get some rhizome shots to you soon.

I get slow but steady growth from both Swing Town and Hello Darkness. Mixed bag with the rest of the 1 and 2 year old clumps. Harvest of Memories however must really like my soil - it went wild. Will be thinning it shortly.

You will find a huge variation between cultivars, as to the amount of increase. I planted about 300 iris last year, and while some were "early spring "plantings, and some were "late fall", the majority were all planted from, say, June 20th, to July 15th. I'll post a pic or 2 that I have already in the file( I'd take a few just of "plant size", but it's raining!):
Thumb of 2014-06-26/crowrita1/2892a7
With the exception of the yellow in the foreground, all these were planted as single rhizomes, last year

Thumb of 2014-06-26/crowrita1/91d869
These were all" single " plantings from last year,( except for 3 plants in foreground )
I think you will find that after about 2 years in the ground, there are some that will have increased to the point of 'crowding their neighbors", and will need dividing/moving, and others will just be making their first stalk! That's just the "nature of the beast"!

As I said before, some of mine have fared much better than others. Here is a close up of Change In The Weather's increases after one year:
Thumb of 2014-06-29/Lestv/a6ddf1

as compared to my poor little Midnight Oil after two years (!):
Thumb of 2014-06-29/Lestv/044832

My front garden's increases have been larger in general than those in the back garden (under a maple tree) , but so far those that struggled from the get go are the only ones I am still having problems with.

I had one called Jacob that was just huge after only one year, well yesterday I dug out the last of it, and by the time I cut off all of the rot, I had a couple small nubs with some possilbe new increases that "Might" make it. The good news is that Brad includes some of that in his box, so I should be OK.

I didn't get photos, but 'Janet Price' came into the garden & produced 3 stalks with a couple other increases. Will see what it does after a full year here. It is blue-white darker blue on the fall rim.

Well, yes -- ahem -- it is. Did I mention that I keep forgetting? Ummmmm -- did I mention that I got stung by a wasp? And that my back hurts? And that it's hot out? And that I've been busy?

All true. But mostly I keep forgetting. Whistling

Just so you know, I've had 'Hello Darkness' in the ground for years. I've divided, moved bits to other areas, and it's still a bit of a bow-wow of a grower here.

This was something I'd been wanting to do... I got most, but not all of last year's that went in the ground. I took some pictures, but this list shows how many fans, and where I got them. The asterisk indicates bloom the first year.

Rob - I guess the best grower of the year award in my garden goes to Las Vegas. In the 10 months it has been planted it has produced 11 good size increases!!! And ironically ..... it was sent to me by mistake! Blinking It was suppose to be Seakist. Also, LV is suppose to be a rebloomer, so I'll have to see with all that growth if it wants to be the first rebloomer to bloom for me.

That's great Sherry, thank you! Hurray!

11 increases, wow thank you Leslie! Thumbs up

I see conjuration had 12 for Sherry, wow again.

This is great information for choosing what to plant where. At first I wanted to make sure mine were growing at a normal pace. Then it occurred to me it's great to know which increase fast, so I give those a little more room to grow.

Okay. I FINALLY had time to take some pictures for you, Rob. I ignored everything with less than 6 increases in one year's time. These are all Irises that were planted in the fall of 2012, so they were 18 months old at the time of bloom this spring.

First up is Tango Amigo -- 11 increases:
Thumb of 2014-07-06/Muddymitts/9e38b1

Next up is Rio Rojo -- also 11 increases:
Thumb of 2014-07-06/Muddymitts/27d45e

Third is Black Magic Woman -- 8 increases:
Thumb of 2014-07-06/Muddymitts/ad1c02

Next is Society Lady -- 8 increases:
Thumb of 2014-07-06/Muddymitts/df354d Lookit the size of some of those rhizomes!!

Also -- Florentine Silk -- 7 increases, I believe:
Thumb of 2014-07-06/Muddymitts/5fd70d

Not pictured -- Daughter of Stars -- 6 increases, already transplanted.

Also not pictured -- Hollywood Nights -- 6 increases, dug and ready to be transplanted. AND -- this one was received and planted last fall (2013)!!!

So. There ya go -- the Irises doing REAL well in Kentucky!!! Green Grin!
