I Googled out of curiosity to find out the approximate age of my oak tree. I found two interesting site that I wanted to share. Come to find out my largest oak is about 70 years old sprouting in the forest in the 1930's, way before my time. Maybe sprouting while my mom was young?

Here is a chart for trees in general:

Here is a chart specifically for oak trees:

I agree The link for the oaks made me take a walk down to our big oak and measure, 8ft 2inches. Around 103 years old according to the oak chart. Thank you for the link and for satisfying nearly 25 years of wondering about the age of our big oak tree!

Wonder why pecan tree wasn't on that list? Did I just miss it somehow?

Interesting website, I'll have to check out a few of mine sometime. All our trees are tiny though but it would still be interesting to know how hold they are.

My Cedar Elm wasn't on there, either, but the link led me to look up contact information for a couple of agencies that might be able to help me tell. Thank you, Cheryl. Smiling

Using that oak chart, this tree with a girth of 19 feet (in the 80's, most recent measurement I can find. I want to measure it myself!) should be at least 400 years old. It is in Fowler park, Geneva AL.

Have to get pretty far back to get the whole tree in a pic.

I'm not sure oaks from North America can be quantified with the same formula as oaks in England. According to that chart, the trees at Oak Alley Plantation (in above link,) would be around 1,000 years old but it's considered a fact they were planted in the early 1700's, so are around 300 years old. That's a pretty big difference.

Guess that's also why pecans aren't on there (the info is from England.)
