I am in zone 9b (so dormants do not do well here for me), but I know all ev or sev daylilies do! Of course, anyone reading or replying to this thread may also want to list dormants as well, as I sure that others who grow dormants would love to read about those!

What are some very nice "late" or "very late" season blooming daylily cultivars with a high bud count? It seems most of mine are early or early/mid season bloomers. And if they happen to show rust resistance .... that would be a plus! Thanks so much!

Becky, I'll look through PlantStep tonight and see which ones I have which are not dormant. I'm pretty sure most of my ML and L's are from Curt Hanson, Judy Davisson and John Rice.

With the variety of opening times we see from garden to garden, and even year to year in the same garden, keep in mind your mileage may vary on what is late for you or someone else. But, that being said, here are some that just started blooming (L or VL in my gardens, though the hybridizers' designations are earlier seasons) and that I really enjoy for their tardy appearance, strong bud count (15-30), saturated colors, and rust resistance potential:

Double Red Royal (tested very well for rust resistance by the University of Arkansas in 2001)

9am/82 degrees -- 10:30 am/86 degrees
Thumb of 2014-07-13/chalyse/bfd803

Tremor (has parentage that was tested as resistant in 2001 U of A, and were given high marks in grower's survey)

6pm/86 degrees -- Varied eye patterns, different on each bloom
Thumb of 2014-07-13/chalyse/02a53d Thumb of 2014-07-13/chalyse/173bf3 Thumb of 2014-07-13/chalyse/911144

Mulberry Truffle has a good balanced parentage; bred with a selection toward tested resistance cultivars
-- depending on time of day, sun position, and from bloom to bloom, a nice range of colors

9:30am/83 degrees -- 10:30 am/86 degrees -- 3pm/93 degrees

Ferry Boat Ride also has parentage that tested well for resistance

7:30am/78 degrees -- Edge detail -- 2pm/99 degrees (blast furnace garden)

Some late bloomers for me, (mostly ufo's) are Margo Reed Indeed, Mapping Pennsylvania, Suzy Cream Cheese, Highland Tower, Ruffled Strawberry Parfait, Lavender Handlebars, Techny Peach Lace, North Wind Dancer and So Lovely(which has started to bloom earlier than last year).

Thanks to each of you for your list and for recommendations! I really appreciate it. I moved most all my daylilies this past Fall/Winter, so those that did, only bloomed once. I've not had any re-bloomers so far this year, much to my dismay. And for some reason, my front yard seedlings (this is 2nd year plants) did not bloom again this year. I almost always get blooms the second year. So perhaps the transplant has delayed all of them until next year. (sigh)

Tina - THANK YOU for your wonderful photos and list of plants! Rust resistance is a big plus for me! I love Tremor and Ferry Boat Ride. I really like Double Red Royal, too! Thank you so much!

Hello, I like to add Lates to the garden. What are some of yours. I don't have to many but
INDIAN RIPPLE is the top favorite here. I don't want the party to be over lol.

Teresa - I bumped up that thread as I am also interested to know which cultivars are late bloomers.

There were two threads going on lates and I asked Dave to merge them into this one… and then the old thread I linked to a few posts back was bumped up…. so I am going to lock this thread and say lets keep going on that older thread as it has a lot more info in it. That way we won't keep having two threads on the same topic going at the same time.

Thumbs up
