Jay, it is never a good idea to post your email address in a public forum as it's one sure recipe to end up with an Inbox full of spam. I never heard of it before, but I love the name. Why is it called "infernalis"?

I dodn't know the origin of the name, but that is its Latin nomeclature Alocasia infernalis 'kapit'. Kapt is a semi-new cultivar/ssp found in Borneo. Its an upright dwarf that is more difficult to keep than most alo's & calo's. Jet back/deep puprple in color it has proven to be an uncommon variety.

Jay: I saw you previous post on the Aroid Forum about trying to find this plant. The only place I found a listing was here : http://www.vendio.com/stores/p... It sure is a gorgeous Alocasia and hopefully will become readily available in the near future. I bet many folks would love to have it in their collection!

Lorli: infernalis is the particular species of Alocasia:

Genus: Alocasia
Species: infernalis
Cultivar Name: Kapit

plantladylin:

Thank you for the suggestion. I bought a sm specimen from this guy. He's in Hawaii & sells a lot on eBay. He sent me a scraggly lil thing that was half dead, & when I removed it from its pot it was basically a leaf/stem stuck in the soil. No roots, no esablished growth, nothing. I don't know if I got ripped off or if he sent a 'seedling' too soon. The search goes on!

Jay

PS - Monrovia emailed me & said they no longer carry that cultivar, even though its still on their website.
