It took the squirrels over a year of trying, but they did learn how to defeat my spinning bottom bird feeder. ( Yankee is the brand.). The feeder was hanging from a shepard's hook and the squirrel grabbed the vertical portion of the hook with his two back paws and with one front paw held on to a non spinning nut on the very bottom of the feeder. The free hand raided the feeder. They won. No large tree was available to move the feeder to, so I bought a Slinky spring toy and ran the hook through the toy, attaching the slinky at the very top of the hook with the spring falling to the ground thus covering the entire vertical portion of the hook. I won, at least temporarily.

Squirrels have always found a way to get to the feeders, regardless of the gadgets I have tried. They just won't quit trying until they are successful. I have watched them with interest trying time and again to overcome an obstacle until one finally succeeds. At that point they ALL know the solution. If they would leave my orchids, jade, and garden alone, I would leave them be. I have no choice but to hang my orchids under my trees and there is just too much time, effort and money spent on them to have them damaged or destroyed.

I had no idea that squirrels died when relocated. Lots and lots of wild animals and birds are relocated all over the nation and I have never heard of them dying. Perhaps squirrels aren't as smart as I thought they were.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.
