The Magic in Yarrow

By Sharon
July 22, 2014

There was magic, she said, in the plants we gathered from the mountain. Magic plants had three reasons for living: They gave us food, they gave us medicine, and they gave us beauty. She said yarrow was truly magic because it was also a plant that could live with very little water. To me, the very best part about yarrow was that it was so old it had a story to tell. That made it even more magical. I loved Aunt Bett's stories.

And the leaves would come in handy when working around the roses.

When I thought of yarrow, I thought of the bright yellow woodland variety. I didn't realize that it came in such lovely colors including lavender and bright pink!

Winston the pug doesn't like the wild woodland yarrow. Whenever he sniffs a stand of it, he pees on the stalks! Silly doggie.

I wish that he would bark at deers as vigorously as he barks at cars!

I "adopted" some white yarrow I found while strolling with you know who. I put it in the future wildflower corner with the newly relocated ditch lilies and some hyssop. It was on my mind thanks to your article.

I feel like I have more to do than I have gotten done, but it is an enjoyable journey....except for the rocks, weeds, deer.....if it were easy, I would get bored.
