I grew these from seed this year was wondering if I should over winter them?
I am getting ready to pot them up or plant them in the ground but not sure if they can take the winter at this size.

Are you going to provide a dormancy period?

Are they growing in the ground? I might cover them with a light mulch when it gets cold. Something like pine straw.

I agree with Paul...leave them in the ground, let them go dormant and cover with leaves or one straw for the winter. Let them develop some roots, and see what comes back next spring. I usually just leave my seedlings alone and see if there's anything interesting enough to keep, then I thin out the weaker ones.

I got lost somewhere in this thread, the advice recommended seems to have been to leave them in the ground and put a mulch over them, but they were not in the ground.
I also did not understand the part about providing dormancy, what if they were not planted in the ground but left in the pot (container) what ever they are planted in? Will someone be kind enough to "unbefuddle" me.

I asked if they were in the ground but that wasn't answered so I assumed that they were. If they are transplanted now how will they be overwintered? I don't think there is an ideal choice here.......

They are planted in the container I started them in and was planning on dividing and either putting in the ground or each their own container.

I plant my small potted ones in the ground (pot and all) and mulch them. I've lost a few, but most make it through the winter just fine. Once the ground has thawed enough to pull the pots up, I put them in my potting area so I can baby them.

Seedfork, all hostas must have at least 30 days of temperature around 40° or colder.
Seedlings if potted, may go in the house, but you must provide that dormancy. Some in warmer climates put them in the refrigerator.

If potted and kept outdoors in colder climate, the pots should be turned on their sides after they go dormant, but before it's to cold to move them. This is to prevent crown rot in the spring.

Like dormant daylilies, it not given dormancy, the plants will soon die.

I hope this helps.
