Why is it that when you click on one of the forums on the home page, the first screen you see (i.e. page 1) contains the latest threads, but when you click on one of the threads on that forum, its page 1 has the oldest threads? I'm not complaining about the inconsistency i sorting, just curious.

Most (all?) forums online behave this way. The presumption, I suppose, is that the list of threads should be ordered with the newest stuff on top.

But once you enter a thread you are now viewing an actual conversation so it makes sense to read the conversation in the order in which it occurred.

I prefer it this way ... if I've been "following" a thread with quite a few pages I'd rather see the most recent posts come up when I click on it rather than having to scroll all the way through to the last post.

Edited to say: In my working days I learned to file this way also ... the most current invoices were filed in the front of the folders so you didn't have to go all the way to the back to find what you were looking for. I've talked to a lot of folks who find that way of filing odd but I even have my file cabinets at home set up like that now ... current papers, invoices forward in the front.

I remember back in the 1970's when the company I went to work for used that type of filing system ... it was so strange to me but really did make more sense!

Lin, if you go to your profile,
then hit:
- - - - - - - "ยป Change your site preferences"

then set this to "Yes":
- - - - - - - - "Automatically jump to the first unread post in threads?"

... then every time you go to a thread you've been in before, you will automatically jump right to the first unread post.

(It assumes that you read every post last time you went into that thread.)

I love the jump-to-first-unread-post feature!

Me too!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
