I bought this sharpener last year when I was visiting my daughter in New Mexico. Her local nursery uses it for their pruners and other tools with blades.

I have used it on my kitchen scissors, garden pruners, and knives. My husband has one in his wood working shop and uses it on some of his tools. Both of us are very happy with it, and I no longer have dull garden pruners.
Has anyone else had experience with this handy tool?

I saw two reviews of this product on the home depot site, one lady was not able to figure out how to use the tool, she returned it and give it a poor rating due to inadequate instructions.
So here is a YouTube video to show exactly how it is used, it seems every product made should have instructions on YouTube to illustrate how to use it. Seeing a video for most of us is so much better than trying to read instructions (especially some of the ones written in foreign countries than make no sense).
I have never bought one of these still just use a file, or sharpening stone in the drill, but I have been tempted.

Great video Seedfork. Thank you for posting it. We have always used the traditional methods of sharpening out tools and untensils, until I saw this used at the above mentioned nursery in New Mexico. The cashier had just opened the package to try it out before putting them on the display end to sell them. She had one of the old pruners that wouldn't cut anything. She looked at the instructions and gave it a try. And yes, you could cut a piece of paper with the blade when she finished. It went from not cutting the tiniest of plant stems to cutting woody stems like they were butter.

I really love mine, and am very glad I found this tool last year. No more dull blades here.

I'm impressed .. guess I'll pick one up tomorrow!

I went to Home Depot and Lowes and couldn't find one.

It was in a funny place when I found mine at Home Depot. The help didn't even know about them.

I ended up ordering it from the hd site .. will be delivered to the store in a few weeks. And no one there had ever heard of it either.

It looks very well designed ... but I seem to be old-fashioned about some things.

I "just don't like" carbide scrapers for sharpening things to a fine knife edge. I like diamond stones because they cut fast and stay flat forever. Or starting with draw-filing and then switching to stones.

I use carbide scrapers and hand-drill grinders for removing metal coarsely and shaping a rough bevel, for example on a lawnmower blade, but for some reason I can't really name, it just "feels right" to finish every edge with light pressure against a fine grit stone, alternating sides so the burr is minimal.

If it can push-cut an heirloom tomato skin without compressing it, it's sharp enough. If you have to slice to get a clean cut ... well, it COULD be sharper.

I could try to rationalize that bias, but I think it is just being suspicious of anything that isn't "my way" after I've perfected "my way" for 20 years or more.

I got mine and I'm impressed .. it does a great job on pruners and secateurs, a splendid job on knives, serrated too and an awesome job on scissors! Haven't tried the lawn mower blade yet. There is a separate sharpeners for single and double edge blades.

I was just mentioning this tool to DH this morning (as I was lopping off invading canes from the climbing rose next to the porch with my oh-so-dull bypass pruners ). I may ask him to look for one of these next time he's by Home Depot.

They don't have them in the stores .. you have to order them online.

I just used mine again today. I never have dull garden tools now.

Call ahead woofie, my HD had them in stock. Be sure to give the full name, that way they can look them up in their inventory. They put them in such an odd spot in the store.

I was about ready to toss out some old scissors I use in the kitchen .. made them like new again!

That is one of the first things I tried mine on, old scissors. They are like new now.

You're right. The local store doesn't stock them, but you can order them for pickup in-store. We have to go to Spokane regularly for my doggie's meds, so if DH is interested, I'll just order them for pickup and save the shipping.
