Jo, press the plants gently against the paper, maybe with your thumb to get a bit more pigment from them on to the paper, either wet or dry or both.

See what happens.

Cool!

I will harvest dark colored DL's tomorrow morning. I have a mail in to my cousin to see if and how she keeps a collection of buds to do a big job.
I remember a few years ago when she was making dye baths for wool, she kept dead headed blooms for several days.
I will also look for a video on natueral dyes maybe get some new slant on blooms.
Cousin says the deadheaded styff needs to be next days so the color is on its way out.
She made some nice panels with dry paper ,place buds on then spray. It left great negative spaces and sharp edges.

I am running out of blooms and the deer are eating emerging blooms almost every night.

Cousin says not to keep buds ,its too messy.
I dont have a wealth of buds as the season is slowing down.
I did spray repellant on the red DL's

Spraying while they are placed on the paper gives her those great negative images. Combine that with a bit of pressure on those that are not dried out will add another dimension, I'll bet.

Pounding the pigment out of the fresh flowers would be interesting to add as well. I think I have some pictures around here somewhere and if I find them, I'll be back!

My first attempt included a few fresh flowers. Sorta good results.
I intend to master this.

Jo, as you well know about us 'artists' -- most of us have the worst filing systems ever. Here's a picture of one of my 'plant poundings', a summertime JM leaf and little seed thingies, (AKA helicopters).

It's done on dry w/c paper.

I have one of the leaves when they turn bright red and it's really nice, color is more intense than when they are green. I might find it -- probably by accident, in the next year or two. If all else fails, I could walk around to the side of my house and grab a leaf, already red.

It's more controlled than what you are doing, but I thought it might be interesting to add a corner of a leaf or a seed thingy or a real bloom to your free forms and/or negative areas. Also adding a different type of natural 'pigment'/medium.

I will give pounding a try. I am running out of blooms so I dont want to go too nuts with experimentation.

One bloom, a petal or two at a time. That's the only way it will work anyway, a flat flower or a petal at a time. Coneflowers will work, roses won't. But one rose petal will. See?

Jo, use the coneflowers before the petals start drying, not sure how the center will do, you might have to just do the petals, center might be too dry. The pigment in them has to be moist to work. You'll figure it out, no problem. Big Grin
