I picked up two clematis off the junk shelf at Lowe's today. They had very nice growth, the original plugs just had worked their way above the soil line and some roots were starting to show. I really don't need any more clematis. But I'm a sucker for the junk shelf. Especially when there is nothing wrong with the plants!

I repotted them both, planting them deeper until I can figure out where they are going to go. One of them had some uneven, unwieldy growth so I trimmed it up a bit. I am a miser when it comes to plants. I hate to throw out any parts. Is there a way I can save these three cuttings and get them to root? I know clematis are often propagated from cuttings. I just have no clue how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated!

I haven't tried rooting clematis cuttings myself, although I keep meaning to do so. What I've read is that you just stick the cutting into a pot of moist soil (after dipping in rooting hormone if you have it) and cover it with a plastic dome of some sort. Set it somewhere out of direct sunlight and wait. Worth a try!

Ok great, i did all that except covering it. I'll go back and do that

Just make sure that the covering doesn't touch the cutting. That way lies rot.
I can tell you that the one time I tried petunia cuttings, with and without the dome, the ones under the dome did MUCH better. I guess the cover keeps the leaves from drying out while the cutting is trying to root.
