It's when a lot of the hybridizers in Florida open their gardens to the public during peak bloom and have special events like champagne brunch at Petit's, an ice cream social with an auction, breakfast in the garden at Nicole's. When Frank Smith still had his place there was a bbq and I think Dan Hansen has something on Thursday night. But you get to go meet all of the hybridizers and tour their gardens and such.

I'm thinking of planning a trip next year but I have to figure out if the time frame of Mecca works, or some other time.

I'm doubting I'll be going to Florida any time soon.

Yes, I remember hearing about that also but it was July 4th weekend.

I have attended the Northern Mecca and they are fun! I don't think they are having a meal now. In 08 they had a meal at the Rices.
You will get daylily overload!

They still have a meal/picnic at Northern Mecca This year it was at Valley of the Daylily (Bachman's garden). They also have 2 raffles at the picnic, one is free and everyone gets one ticket. From this raffle I got Tipsy butler (Holmes 2011) and my daughter got Celebrating Susan (Hamilton 2012).

The second raffle you bought tickets for and it had new introductions. I did not win anything there but my daughter got a little turtle fountain.

The picnic is always a great chance to socialize with other Daylily lovers.
We also enjoy visiting the gardens and buying seedlings during Northern Mecca.

I have so much fun at the Norther Mecca. Great daylilies to look at from really nice hybridizers. I always end up bringing home more plants than I have room for They host a really fun weekend and, a great picnic ( they started doing them again this year). It is a nice way to visit and catch up with other daylily enthusiasts. The lovely picnic was hosted by Dan Bachman this year. I try to go every year since I am under 4 hours away. I recommend going to check it out if you have an opportunity.

Do you know if they will be hosting the picnic in 2015? Region 10 also had their Lillies and Fillies on 4th of July weekend. Several gardens around Lexington was on tour. Daylily World and the Rice's plus some club member's gardens.

Now that I know to watch for it, I would really like to try to go to Northern Mecca next year.

I noticed the region 10 tour this year. Wish I had been able to check it out! Touring gardens is so much fun. Maybe if they have it again I can check it out. I am assuming the Northern Mecca would host a picnic again. The last 2 years it was too close to Nationals (I think) so they did not hold it. Just keep an eye on the website next year, they will update it. My husband and I did a one day trip this year and went to River Bend (Holmes) Natural Selection (Faulkner) and Valley of the Daylilies (Bachman). Next year we hope to stay longer and visit a few more that we missed the last time.

It would be fun if we could have a mini ATPs gathering during the N. Mecca next summer. I love meeting people that I chat with online, and of course seeing the beautiful daylilies!
