I am certain there are still some folks in the Northern part of the country that still have some blooms and buds ready to bloom in there gardens. For the few of us that still have 'late' blooming plants, I hope you will post them here.

A WALK TO REMEMBER - Last bloom of the season




BUDDY'S 'PRETTY LAURA' - Planted in mid -May of this year. With all the warm and humid temps we have had in the last several weeks, this plant decided to send up 1 scape with 10 buds. Hope it makes it to bloom. After the severe thunder showers expected late this afternoon, temps will drop, ushering in more Fall like weather with CMO's.




CAN"T TOUCH THIS - Last bloom. Couldn't resist including this bloom. Colors are kind of funky at the end of the season. This Nicole plant has really outperformed this season. Just lovely.




ICICLES - Newly planted in May, 'Icicles' bloomed for a short time in June. Apparently, the warm weather we are experiencing has the plant sending up 2 rebloom scapes with about 8 buds. Better hurry up.

Easter Courtship decided to send up some rebloom scapes here.


Trigger Happy put on a wowzer show here this summer. Down to its final blooms, but it must have had 30+ buds per stalk.

Still some blooms here. Noticed more rebloom scapes popping up in the garden today. Van Gogh's Ear had two prebloom scapes, then 4 nice normal bloom scapes and now it has two more rebloomers coming on a 4 fan clump.

It is still raining here, so no pictures, but I have BARACUDA BAY and LOVE AFTER DARK that are still blooming. This is the first year that I have anything after the middle of August, so this has been a real treat.

Weather is still warm and humid here in these old mountains. Really nice. This morning I have several plants blooming.

Thanks Alex. It is an older one but it is a consistent rebloomer so I will always have it in my garden.

Warm and humid is ok, better than the hot and humid we had earlier in the week. I really like the cooler mornings to get things done in the garden...before it warms up enough for the bugs to move around. There are so many bees this year on the rudbeckia, cimi's, hydrangeas and clematis, big ones and small ones and they are grumpy. I've been stung 3 times in the last week trimming the daylilies. Went down this evening and there are still quite a few daylilies blooming. There's a Place had that really cool pattern again, The Levitating Ananuki was levitating, Waterpocket Fold, Metaphysical Shrug and Karma Suture pleated, and more. Nothing is Easy seemed to sum up my battle with the bees...took a few images.

Nothing is Easy, a bud builder that just blooms on and on.

and a diploid seedling on last bloom. I don't work with dips very much, plant maybe 50 dip seeds a year just for fun. This one was one I kept a few years back and it may hit the compost next year when I clean the keep bed it's in. The bright red with large yellow throat stood out today, it's the only thing left blooming in that bed.

That dip is not bad Char.

Creole Moon had a very green throat.

I have 25 plants in some stage of either ending there bloom cycles or on rebloom scapes, or just beginning to bloom with brand new scapes. These new scapes are all weather related. Today's temps are around 82 with brilliant sunshine, and nice breeze. All of this will change tomorrow when a cold front moves through bringing in a much more Fall like temperatures. But we have been really been spoiled for 3 weeks with these late summer high temps. Just delightful. In the past week, I have sent 8 sdlgs to the compost pile that bloomed this Summer, and have planted 35 new sdlgs, bringing my total of sdlgs to about 90. That's more than enough for me to take care of.

Blooming this morning when I walked the garden are the following:



ROYAL CYPHER - Last 2 blooms of the season. Has been blooming for 6 weeks.




TAL OF GASGONE- Rebloom scape




DUBLIN ELAINE - Very late bloomer. Plant full of buds.




BLUE BREASTED BEE-EATER - Blooming for 7 weeks now, and will soon be finishing its bloom cycle.

I'm loving the purples, Char, There's a Place and Nothing is Easy are great. So is Blue Breasted Bee-Eater, Alex. Love them.

Thanks Glen! I do like how it opens flat, from parent Substantial Evidence. A sib that cristates (pod was Crimson Enigma) will definitely stay. I love the purples and lavenders too Sharon. Sometimes I think there are way to many purples, lavenders and pinks in the garden, the cool colors appeal to me on hot days.
Icicles and Creole Moon are looking good! ..a big bump on my forehead from that grumpy bee yesterday, stayed away from them today.

What a Relief, was one that I planted late last Oct. and came through our horrible winter fine. Happy to see it blooming this summer.


The Dream Society, gorgeous one from Curt with a huge violet blooms. The original scapes are done blooming now, but... there are 2 rebloom scapes coming! Still hard to find, although I do see it listed on the LA every once in awhile...

Funny how one can see parentage in a daylily. Does that make me truly obsessed?

What a difference a day makes. A cold front that came thru the Northeast yesterday afternoon cooled Vermont down a good 20 degrees. Instant Fall. Weatherguy says temps will drop into the low 40's tonight. Yikes. Break out the fleece jackets. Yesterday, I started the process of closing down the garden for the Winter. I managed to get 34 plants mulched with leaf mulch around the plant and topped with red cedar mulch on top. I actually recycle all the leaves I blow into the forest each Fall, and reuse them the following year for my daylily plants. It makes for a wonderful mulch and food for the plants during the long Winter. The cold weather comes quickly here in Vermont, so while I still have a few plants still blooming in the garden, I am working hard to get all these plants covered up for the snows that will come. Fortunately, the seedling beds are all done.

This all be my last image to be posted for 2014. Of all things it is an FFOE.
