Have any of you grown the beautiful Black Diamond Series of Crepe Myrtle? I have just bought 4 this year. I think they are breathtaking. I got two of the best red, one red hot and one white one. I am wondering if they will always keep these beautiful black leaves, I sure hope so. They are stunning!

We grow it and love it. The black foliage is amazing. Note that 'Black Diamond' is a trade name and the actual name of this plant is Ebony Flame.

Here is our database entry for it:

Yes Dave, I did read that somewhere. But I could not find out if they stay black. How long have you had yours, and are they staying black??

I think they are stunning. The red & white blooms just pop against the black leaves

I'm definitely going to plant one. No one in my neighborhood has one of these, but since you are also a Tennessean, I can see that it will prosper. Smiling

I found mine at Lowes. Not all the lowes stores had them though, but they may have them by now. I got mine a month ago

I just placed an on-line order for a Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia 'Ebony Flame')

Can't wait for it to arrive ... I've been wanting one since seeing Dave's photo in the database!

Uh oh, looks like I got something started, lol. They are beautiful. In keeping with their ebony leaves, I planted near them a Black Lace Elderberry that has leaves like those fancy lace leaved Japanese maples, but the leaves are black like the Black Diamond or Ebony series crep Myrtles. Found this sweet elderberry on clearance at Lowes for $3, my kind of sale! See my pix

Besides the Crepe Myrtle Black Diamond 'Best Red'/'Ebony Flame' I also ordered a Rhododendron austrinum and Itea virginica. Don't know if either will do well here but I figured I'd give them a try. Smiling
