I hesitate to recommend any others. Edmunds' Roses is on a downhill slide, and Hortico is more often bad than good.

I want to replace most of the own root roses that I bought 3 years ago. It's impossible for me to evaluate why most of these own roots are not thriving. I don't know whether it's the rose itself or the grower or my climate. Most of them have only one or two canes. I don't know how to explain this - it's really weird - a new cane will appear and meanwhile another cane will die on the same plant. So you end up with no more than one or two canes - period. It was a huge waste of time (the older you get the faster time seems to fly). I guess to sum it up, I was disappointed. However, the grafted roses I bought from Palatine Roses last year and this Spring were fantastic. I am pre-digging the holes in preparation of receiving my next order.

K and M Roses are fabulous! They're grafted onto fortuniana, however, which is only good for hotter zones. You're in New York, aren't you? They may not work well for you.

I spoke with a gentleman from Southampton NY which is 30 miles southeast of here. He has a huge rose garden and he recommended K &M roses to me. He told me they used fortuniana. Patrick said, "they take off wonderfully". He invited me out to see his garden which would have been most helpful to me. Unfortunately my youngest sister passed away on Easter and I just didn't have it in me to go visiting anyone. I decided to design and dedicate a garden in memory of my sister. She loved flowers esp. roses and irises.
I have to prune an older Blaze climber this coming Spring (a old thick cane). What do you use to seal off roses? Is Elmer's glue OK?

I never seal the canes of my roses, so I can't give you any advice on that.

Well, that makes two of us - lol. I never sealed them before. It was mentioned in a couple of posts on a rose forum and in a you tube video on pruning. Regan certainly has a nice selection - sure is fun shopping for roses.

you can buy a spray in a can that is for sealing trees after pruning, I would think it would be ok for roses, but I have never used it on them. It is a black color when you spray it.

Thanks for the tip Frillylily. On one of the rose forums they mentioned using Elmers No Run Gel Carpenter's Glue.

In my estimation, if Zuzu doesn't do it, it probably does not really need to be done.

You don't need to seal pruning cuts unless you have evidence that you have boring insects in your garden.

Unfortunately, those that have to seal the pruning cuts to protect their roses have made it seem like this is a "must do" in all rose gardens.

Margie, if you have boring insects in your garden, Elmer's Glue is just fine.

As far as I know I don't have any borers. But, if they ever do show up, they better watch out! Because I will have my Elmer's ready and willing.

You could probably use a cheap candle and melt it in the microwave (old crayons?) and use that.

I've worked part time at several nurseries, just as a fun 2nd job for minimum wage (or for plants). If I had worked on commission, it would have been better pay than I made teaching.

I love your list! I personally think Betty Boop and Sheila's Perfume should be in everyone's garden.

I grow all those on your top list. William is the most finicky. Anna's Promise died on me this summer, but it could be she had a hard trip here in a suitcase. I'll buy another because the color blends so well with other perennials that I grow.
On the others, Over The Moon is the only one I've seen, and I don't grow it now, can't remember if I ever have.

Gemini grows best when you plant two of them.

I need a few more Gemini. It's a lovely rose that takes our heat better than most. Good list!
