coleus plants are one of the main things im into growing right now. but all i have are 2 common strands. (pink & green) and (yellow & red)

im sorry i dont know the names :/
but im pretty sure that the pink & green is the common "painted nettle" i believe its called.

i really want to find some new strands of coleus to grow, hopefully find some seeds for sale online or something..

i would like opinions on what some of the prettiest / coolest looking coleus strands are :]

You can usually find all kinds of coleus seeds on ebay. I've bought some there, myself.

All the seed company's have coleus seeds too. Sumerhill seed, Swallowtail seeds and Harris to name a few. Also, if you not into growing from seed you can order from Rosie Dawn. I think they open soon and ship only until ,I think June. Nice plants and selection.

Alex there are probably thousands, but in spring and summer keep an eye on the big box stores. They get different ones in all through the summer and you can pick up a nice plant for $3. They also start extremely easily from cuttings. Mine root in a glass of water in less than a week.

I have a couple going that will make it through winter, I hope. First one is Dipt in Wine (called that for obvious reasons) which varies in color depending on the amount of light it gets, and the second is Florida Sun Rose. It goes from deep green with purple in the middle of the leaves in hot weather to more mottled colors with pink and yellow when the weather is cooler. Our weather is just starting to be cool here, so it will get more colorful.

Rosy Dawn has a wonderful selection, and nice healthy plants. They carry a lot of sun tolerant ones, too. And, as mentioned previously, they're really easy to propagate from cuttings. IN spring you might be able to trade with someone for cuttings or seeds. Watch the plant and seed trading forum.

and dyzzypyxxy, i mostly am looking for some darker coleus like some blue or black ones.. but that "dipt in wine" does look nice, i like it!

and oh i know they root easy. not as fast as spearmint, but ive cloned 8 very small cutting in water, all rooted within a week or less.. i like these plants.. i want more strands! :D

Alex this is a lovely one. It was marketed as "DARK RUBY" in Australia. The picture doesn't do it justice.

cooler weather is best.. for fresh cut I dampen paper towel .. wrap the bottoms where you cut.. wrap in plastic wrap or a baggie and a rubber band.. others just toss them in a baggie

There are over 2,000 named cultivars of Coleus. Some can be grown from seed, most are only vegetatively propagated.

99% of these are from cuttings. They root so easily I buy 2" pots of something I don't have yet. These three pots are quite massive in the super heat we have been getting in Winnipeg and have a cost of near zero. Sorry I can't provide names.
