I liked the last thread so much I thought I'd start a new one.

I love that red palm Spitz! Adam your as bad as I am! I picked up four new succulents today. I have absolutely no more room in the house either. I wont have any elbow room to eat breakfast if I have even one more weak moment before spring. Here is my newest babies planted up in a small planter for the winter. My first time with black prince. So glad to find it. Hurray! I love that it grows a lot lower to the ground than most of the others.

Nice plants! I have assorted Aeoniums planted with other succulents in mixed pots, but I was thinking about combining them all in the same pot. Do you see that they do better with just their own kind in a pot? How old are yours in the pic. Mine look like that in the heat of the summer but right after it got cooler they turned into really fat saucers. I was really happy to see that with my zwark top, but my kiwi has hardly done anything in two years. I even tried rooting more and place in separate pot and still nada, just a lot more tiny kiwi Blinking . My sunburst is fickle as well. I am just wondering if they would all do better together instead of being crowded out by other more aggressive growing succulents. I think they have room but maybe they do not think the same.

Hello Audrey!

I usually keep my older, more established plants, like the Aeoniums in their own containers. These Aeoniums have been in my care since 2010, a gift from my aunt. So far through the years I have them, I know these Aeoniums go semi-dormant in my area during summer because of our excessive heat. It keeps the rosettes but the growth is limited and very tight. Once late Fall arrives with its cooler temps all the way to Spring, it looks that way, leaves more actively growing, more elongated.

I love the deep burgundy color it gets into around April just as the seasons transition again, not too hot and not too cold for it yet, then eventually dropping all of its older winter leaves to prepare for its summer slumber.

Some succulents are active summer growers. Aeoniums are more active when temps are cooler. When you do have to repot, consider doing it during the onset of cooler temps. If you do it in summer when it is too hot, you are just in for a very, very long wait. They are sleeping. So it may look like they are doing nothing. What time of the year were you doing the repot?

Thanks for the reply Tarev. I usually pot up everything that will freeze in late October and those pots usually end up being a hodge podge of color including the aeoniums and then in the spring everything gets planted in larger show case pots on the deck and sometimes in the garden. I think this spring I will plant the aeoniums together all in there own pot. That way when the are in there prime I can show case them and when the are dormant I can pull them out of the way to rest while the rest of the succulents shine.

Here is a some pics of some of my pots that are inside now. The zwark is happy, but kiwi stays tiny and my sunburst only looks good in spring. I always see stunning pics on the web of the sunburst, but mine has been somewhat of a disappointment.

They do look sad...it loves to be out in the sun and being cold at the same time. But not the 20's cold.

This is my Aeonium hierrense and my Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop' cuttings. Have to make an exception on these ones..having observed the zwartkop can grow very long stems anyways and hierrense tend to be more shrub-like. But I think depending on how hierrense grows, I may have to move it later on to its own container, if it grows more babies faster.

I think this variegated noid one is also an Aeonium:
Thumb of 2015-01-07/tarev/0be645

This is my favorite big Aeonium, has fared well after I cut it off for the first time ever last year. Whew! So afraid to disturb this plant but seems okay now. Not sure if I will ever get babies on the old stem...it is just not doing anything unlike the arboreums:

Esperanza you just gave me an idea. I have a bag of jade cuttings that I haven't thrown away and last time I checked on them a few weeks ago some roots were forming. I'm going to pot those up in some small styrofoam cups to build up their root systems. I'm also going to take more leaves and cuttings off the varietys that aren't in the bag.

I plan to use all these to make a jade forest bonsai mini garden.

Sounds like a plan Adam. I love using jade as a bonsai. Gollum being my fave.

Tarev here is the only pic I can find of the sunburst in its happy state. It is an late april picture from last year. It is in the pot in the lower left hand corner and to the right in the pot. I wish it looked like that year around.
