I've got TWO bunches of bananas that will be ripe soon. That's waaaay too many bananas and I've only just gotten most of the frozen ones from the last bunch used up.

I cut off just the top 2 hands of one bunch and this is how many are in there. There are about 25 bananas in each 'hand' and there are probably 15 or more 'hands' on each bunch. Argh. I'm looking up my banana pie recipes and planning a sneak delivery to my friends.

How about putting them out on the front stoop with a sign "free bananas, help yourself" Jonna? A lot of people here do that when they have extra fruit. I watch out for the signs on a couple of my neighbors' curbs because their oranges and grapefruit are so wonderful.

Tarev, I had to google turon de banana and see that it includes Jackfruit. There is a jackfruit tree down the street but the fruit is not ripe at this time of year. It sounds like a good combination though.

I can put them out on the street but I'd rather find something to do with as many as possible first. I got on the phone this morning and found several friends who do not have bananas ripening, they will take a few green ones, the lady who cleans for me will take a few. I'm happy I got the freezer cleaned out so as they get overly ripe I can start freezing some. Right now I want as many recipes for fresh banana as I can find, thus the banana creme pie. I have lots of ways to use the frozen ones and there isn't the time pressure. The reason I will have to make sneak deliveries is that most of my friends say 'don't bring me any sweets' as it is bad for their waistline. I made a chocolate chip/walnut/banana bread with the very last bag of frozen bananas last night. It's pretty good, but it is sweet so I may slice it and only leave a few slices along with some green bananas at various houses.

My Key Lime is also producing like crazy, what I'd really like is something that I can make with fresh bananas and lime juice. hmmmm now that I think about it, mangos are starting to come into season along with early pineapples so I could make a big bowl of fruit salad.

There may be jackruit in bottles or cans there. That is what I use since there is no fresh jackfruit here. Yeah I think jackfruit becomes ripe by summer time yet..and they are just so huge too Big Grin
Or sometimes we do not use langka, just the banana itself rolled in brown sugar, wrapped and fried.

I'll look for it in cans. Yes, the fruit is really large, like a watermelon.

oh no! another bloom has appeared. That means I've got about a month or 6 weeks to get rid of a freezer full of bananas from the last ones.

Jonna, when I volunteered at the local County display garden, some people would come by every so often and ask if they could have the banana bloom. We always had lots of bananas, so would let them cut a flower or two. Evidently in some cultures it is considered a delicacy as well.

Just an idea you might want to try, instead of being swamped with bananas again.

I haven't had Banana Cream Pie in soooo long and now I'm really wanting some. Smiling I did make Sour Cream Banana Walnut Bread last week using the little single loaf pans; gave a couple of loaves to my sister and also to the neighbors. I love Chocolate Chip Banana Bread and will make both the regular and the chocolate chip the next time I have over ripe bananas.

Yes, banana blossoms are cooked with coconut milk, in my former home country, in some regions, it is a favorite cuisine. We call banana blossoms, "puso ng saging" literally translated, heart of the banana. You can find recipes/video online how it is prepared and cooked.

I'm googling that right now. I like almost anything cooked in coconut milk, rice is my favorite. It would be a lot easier to eat the bloom than find a use for all those fruits.

Some recipes calls for adding some cubed pork or dried fish, and some chili peppers too. Do tell later how it goes!!

hmmm, lots of work it seems to clean the blossoms on this one. I think this is to use them raw as in a salad.

No coconut milk in this one but it looks good minus the MSG,

This looks like the dish you are talking about Tarev. I am not sure how he prepared the blossoms though, some of it is in english.

So, those are filipino receipes but they are also eaten in India. As a salad and a stir fry. Here's a demo for an Indian stir fry.
