Ok guys! Surely spring is not far off now. I am so excited! I have two Brugs to start spring off with. I have a cutting of my yellow in water and I have a beautiful small plant of Dr Suess, rooted from the generous gift of a cutting from Judy ( scbuttercup ) such a sweet gift! Now, I remember someone saying something about a company that had brug cuttings for sake for $5 each, but I cannot find the post and I don't remember the company. Any of y'all know any nurseries or growers with plants or cuttings for sale at reasonable prices? I sure would like to add to my little collection of two.

Well..Donna...lots of folks send out cuttings for postage..mostly in the fall... and sometimes later in the spring as they are pruning for form...not a good time to ship about now which I guess is why you got no offers or information on your request.. are you on facebook... there's the brug group there..i can't recall if it an open or closed group.. meaning you have to have an invite to join.. if you hsve trouble getting in let me know and I'll recomend you..OH I think it is closed.. if you are on..FB.. request me to be a friend..Gordon Hawkins ...I'll be the one in Brooklyn... ask me to friend you and then I can recomend you.. plenty of preeminent growers and breeders...lots of folks offering cuttings.. when things warm up and they wake up you should have plenty of offers..my cousin just below you in Boonville MS had a bunch of mine.. I don't know if hers are still up and running.. after a series of strokes she's battled through last year.. but if hers come back I'm sure we can get you some there..and come spring from somewhere.. everyone should have as many as they desire..

Hi Gordon! Yes! I am in the FB group. Not a lot of folks seem to offer there and I'm not one to beg. A lady out in California did offer cuttings of a plant a month ago for postage and I accepted her offer, however our weather here and between us has been such that I have been very fearful of shipping them right now. They will be plants by the time we feel it is safe to mail, but I do have a plant coming from her. When you get from ppl like this, most likely the plant will be what it is supposed to be. Many times when you buy, what you get is not what you bought.

I'm so excited, Boonville MS is not far from me, I could easily drive to get cuttings when your cousin cuts hers back! That would be great! I am in Selmer TN, just 30 minutes from Corinth. So that's a wash! Wow! Can you let me know if she had any luck bringing her Brugs through winter?? Wow, I'm excited!

Donna, keep bumping this thread up weekly. When it warms up you will get some offers. I will see what I can spare though most of mine were cut last fall.

Oh JT that sounds promising! I can certainly do that. I am always thrilled to share anything I have with anyone who would like to have a start of it if I have any to spare. I appreciate your offer if yours have any cuttings to spare when the season warms up, and if it does not pan out, I understand things don't always work out like we think.

Donna - Looks like you are on the right path to finding some nice cuttings.

I am on the look-out for some yellow blooming brug cuttings. I have one that has no name, but would like to have another one or two. And I get a real kick out of growing them from seed. (Which is what most of mine are .... unnamed seedlings.)

JT - I hope you will include me in your cuttings and seeds offer. I would very much appreciate it!

My (almost 2 year old) seedlings can be seen on another thread. I have several small Brug trees with unknown parentage. I actually know what the parentage could be, but not conclusively for each individual plant because the cat knocked them off the shelf when they first sprouted and the accident mixed up all the labels. This is for anyone who hasn't seen that thread and are curious to know what can be produced with seeds. They grow quite fast, too!:

Becky, the only one I have that's truly mine, I've had for years and it's an unnamed butter yellow. It's in the ground and last year did not stick it's head up till mid June after our unusual long bitter cold winter. I thought I'd lost it. Of course it didn't bloom! I was late in taking cuttings last fall and we got a surprise frost, I was only able to get one to survive. Normally, I don't take cuttings from it. But after joining ATP and reading the brug posts, I realized why it seldom blooms, and why it blooms so late the few years that it does. I found out about it having to put on enuf growth to make that Y to ever bloom. So with mine freezing back to ground every year, I doesn't put up till late mid to May, then it has to grow all summer. Just about frost if I'm lucky, it's ready to bloom. The heartbreaker some years is when the buds never get to open and I can't protect them long enuf for them to open. so last year I made up my mind I was going to become a pot grower and keep them going. And maybe finally, I too could enjoy some blooms!!!

Anyway, when my yellow gal sticks her head up and puts on enough growth, I'll be happy to root you some of her. I just call her Susy Sunshine. But by no means was she named. I've had her 15+ years. Just keeps coming up in that same spot. It's a very old plant.

Donna - Thank you! With your climate, I do think yours will do so much better in containers. All my are containers, too, and I live in the south. The root knot nematodes do mine in so I HAVE to grow mine in containers and they bloom quite well for me, so I imagine you would have success with yours as well to get lots of blooms!

I have heard about y'all's nematodes before. Now, having said that, I was reading something about natural mole & vole deterrents the other day, and it suggested releasing nematodes into your yard and explained how they would destroy the grubs in the soil, I think, then the moles would go elsewhere. I'm thinking do we want to release nematodes in our soil as much trouble as they cause in Florida????

Gordon - Fascinating video! I had no idea that if you can plant the roots below 18" from the surface of the soil, you will eliminate the root knot nematode issue! Ha! I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing that video link!

I have 26 angel trumpets in my yard and will gladly share, cause people as far away as Ct. shared with me.
