I think they take the attitude "plants only" and consider moss, lichens and fungi not to be plants.

At least we now have a Fungi Forum and they seem welcoming to "lower forms".

Is there an area to post unknown moss pics? I wouldn't have a clue as to what designation garden moss would be.

I'm afraid not. There are several genera, so it would be like asking for an area to post unknown fern pictures. Try to get an ID in the Plant ID forum. Many garden mosses belong to the Polytrichum genus.
