JT,
Your seeds [Velvet rose x (Jinny Lind x NOL)] I got from BGI are starting to germinate. I popped the head off the one on the right trying to get the corky cover off. I thought that it was a goner but it is growing and putting out little leaves. ☺

Am I trying to remove them too soon? They are stuck like super glued. What is best way to take them off and when ?

I hope they turn into awesome, original brugs.

I know a man on a group. One guy suggested coating the cork with a little mineral oil using a q-tip. He said that softens them. Worth a try.

Do all the following VERY gently. Take hold of the stem, near the cork, between two fingers.
Put two fingers on the cork covering, one on top and one on the bottom. Gently squeeze the cork until you feel it give very slightly. Then you should be able to ease it off.
That's the good news. The bad news is you will mess up one now and then.
BTW I will have some seed available to this group in a few months. I have about a dozen seed pods started and that's a lot of seed. These will go for postage and the cost of the padded envelope. I will post when they are ready.

JT to the rescue. I did not know this. Thanks so much. I will use it on my next stubborn corky covering when a seedling comes up like that!

I have terrible success sprouting seed. I tend to try what everyone else is doing instead of following my instincts and they alway dampen off. But I did have one of your crosses to survive JT, it is Jinny Lind x New Orleans Lady. Still small but healthy. For me to have success I have to dust my seeds with Banrot and cover them with a dome for high humidity. Then they tend to do ok if I haven't gotten the potting media too wet. I still have a lot to learn when it come to sowing brug seeds.

I have successfully used JT's method on stubborn cork and had great success. Thanks again!!!

Brenda

Connie, message me on FB.......maybe I can help with the brugs sprouting issue. I have to tell you I have had some brug seed crosses that are 100% failure..........none of the seeds were viable. I always peek inside the cork to see if there is a seed there!

Well I have had so much disappointment with seeds this year, out of fifteen seeds I planted after six weeks and nothing I decided to lift one up and look further for seed inside, there was none so I did the rest, only one out of fifteen actually had a seed, I replanted it and now two weeks later still nothing.
JT I went to Ebay and put your Country Gardens in and they said you had nothing listed. Sighing!

Doris, I know the feeling. I had seeds I got from BGI (4 packs) and only have 3 seedlings. I then ordered seeds from Shaun and have almost 100% germination. I think they have to be very fresh for my level of skill. I also started Shaun's seeds outdoors and the others were inside during winter.
I don't do well with seeds or cuttings in winter. Hopefully, I will have a greenhouse this winter.

Sorry, Doris.........I know how disappointed you are that your efforts, not to mention your money, went to waste. But I did not get seedlings from my first brug seeds back in 2006, and now I get tons!!! Keep trying!!!

I will keep trying as I have done them before with good results but it does get frustrating.

OK,there is nothing up right now. I will be adding more over the weekend so check again Monday evening. I have put up two lots so far and they sold out quickly.I will try putting up more this time.
Also, when you check, look for countrygdn not Country Gardens. One other way to find them will be to search for Brugmansia "Ann Sessions". As far as I know, I am the only one selling that one. If you see it sold by anyone else be suspicious. It is Liz Fichtl's hybrid and very few have that one.
