When Rooting in Water Is Just Not Enough

Lots of plants seem to root well in water. When you pot them up, however, they seem to decline, or fail to grow at all and die.

I love your article. I was surprised that you can root begonias though. I would love to try that. I assume you just slice one off and follow directions you list above?

Mary I've done it with leaf slices as well as stem cuttings from the shrub types as well as the semperflorens. With the leaf slices you have to be very careful to keep the water level even. I've had great success with leaf slices on my Waterlily Begonia ( Begonia nelumbiifolia) which is Rhizomatous.

Well, after I look up all the words I don't know Hilarious! I will see if I can grow cuttings from my tuberous begonias. Thanks
