Do you have very specific instructions with steps for submitting plant photos of which I have no name for, except for the fact that my plant photography results in a good photograph. I'm having a difficult time submitting a photo for your Home Page. It would be great if there would be just a button " submit plant photo" without going through the Plant Database route, which is also a zig zag of steps. Also, now I know only to submit square photos. In one of the photos that was cropped by a ATP administrator, I would like to delete because the photograph is not what I meant to show. I cannot find a delete process for this. I would really appreciate ATP's instructions on these situations so that I could be actively participating. Gardening and photography are my hobbies and I feel handicapped in the photography department without specifics. Looking forward to your help.

Homepage pictures aren't static, they change as new images are added to the database. They are database image entries that are simply showcased briefly on the homepage.

If you click on the database picture that you want to delete, and then scroll down toward the bottom of the page there will be a "» Propose this image be deleted" link - click on that and follow the prompts.

Also, much as we all appreciate great pictures it's not really productive to submit a photo to the Database before you know the plant's name.

Try posting it over to the Plant ID forum to identify it first. Then you can post away to the Database with more useful info, not just a lovely photo. Once you post it to the Database with it's name, it will appear on the Home Page for a cameo.

Or if it's something that you know in general what it is, eg. a Rose or a Daylily, a Tropical or an Orchid, but not a specific cultivar name, you can post it on the forum for that plant and probably get an ID there pretty quickly.

The administrators don't crop photos, Fleur. The photos are smaller in the thumbnail view, however. If you click on your photo to enlarge it, you probably will see exactly what you want to see in the photo.

If you do want to delete it for some reason, enlarge the photo, scroll down to the "Actions" box, and click on "Propose this image be deleted."

To Chelle, Elaine and Zuzu, I thank you very much for replying. You've enlightened me and I feel more comfortable about my submissions. I just recently got active with ATP and may have made some presumtuous mistakes. Your friendly and informative replies are very appreciatd.

Fleur: If you'd like to find an exact ID for a plant, you can post photos over on our Plant Identification forum: http://garden.org/forums/view/... We have some very knowledgeable members here on ATP who've helped me identify plants on many an occasion! Once you get an exact ID you can add your photos to the correct entry in the database!

Many plants in the database have a "General" or "Parent Plant" entry which provides information pertaining to plants in that particular genus. I think when someone recognizes a photo in the general plant entry as a particular species or cultivar they can propose to move it to the correct database location.

Plantladylin: With this good advice, I am putting together my own manual of excellent ATP directions. Appreciate your contribution to my dilemmas.
