Interesting plant, worthy of a little research. There is even debate on how to spell the name. It seems this double flowering variety was found on a single plant and all of the succeeding plants have come from its root cuttings. The single flowering one is the wild variety and may well be the national flower. The double flowering one is unique to Trinidad and Tobago and is the one favored by the plant industry. Like bougainvillea, the color comes from brackets while the small flowers go mostly unnoticed. Very pretty indeed.

Hi ,
We were told that it is named after the last Governor of Trinidad and his name was Jose Maria Chacon.

Right you are, Prabhi. He was the last colonial Spanish Governor.

The botanical name of this plant appears to be Warszewiczia coccinea. We have no photos in that entry, so it would be great if you could post your photo there, Prabhi.

I can not remember the date on which the photograph was taken, so what should I do?

You don't need the date. Do you want me to import the photo from the forum into the database for you?
