Admit, I'm a bit stuck this morning.

Starting with Yellow...I don't normally purchase yellows for their color although I do like yellows in the garden. A few favorites...
Three Rivers Gold, a few years ago I won this in a raffle at a Lilyhemmer meeting.

Memories of Mother is a daylily I would consider to be voluptuous, one of our terms in the "V" thread.

Tall Blonde, a pleated yellow, has huge blooms and leather like substance with a waxy finish.

A new yellow last year was Extra Effort a sculpted cristate form. Really looking forward to seeing it bloom this year!

After looking these favorites up I wondered if there were any daylilies registered with yellow eyezones, there were.

Yellow Appliques

Yellow watermarks

You can search for more by using the Search for Characteristics section in the ATP Daylily Database and typing in the "color description" box what you are looking for.

And finally a why...."Y" does it always seem to happen...when I have pollen in my hand and I think of the perfect cross for using it...the daylily I want to use it on either has not begun blooming Yet this year or had blooms open Yesterday? Rolling my eyes.

I admit, yellow was the only term I could think of. *Blush*

Yellow daylilies are very cheerful in the garden, especially past the peak of bloom. I strongly feel that every garden, no matter how small, should have at least one yellow daylily, even if it is *gasp* a miniature daylily, in a pot:

Some of the yellows in my garden (many of which you have seen before, some of which are polychromes or blends):

(also, the Tetra version of the above, but I have not seen it in bloom yet)

(has not grown to its registered height here, probably due to shade and lousy acidic clay)

(stretching the definition a bit, as this was registered as a "cream gold pink")

("yellow with a pink cast")

Since I just pitched out a couple of rusty yellows, I ordered and am awaiting delivery this season of two more resistant ones. (I am reluctantly breaking a rule on height here as these two daylilies are shorter than I like, but I wanted them for their rust resistance (I have hybridizing plans), and if need be, I can always put them into pots.)

Finally, a sampling of seedlings:

I think 'yucky' is going to be an apt description of all that new daylily growth after the late Feb & March cold spells are finished with them. I knew the weather was fooling them into active growth too early. They will just have to adapt to that sort of weather pattern (or not, I guess) because that's normal in my location most of the time.

I like yellow daylilies. And orange. And Red. Even pink and lavender. And those with eyes and patterns and watermarks. I still have a couple of yellows on the wish list. Yellow comes in different shades the same as other colors.

'Y' for that yellow daylily in Mike's avatar @Hazelcrestmikeb. That's a great daylily photo if you enlarge it. Is it a registered cultivar or a seedling, Mike?

Thank you, Mike. The registered height on 'Sears Tower' exceeds the upper height limit I've set Sad . Since I'm planting in what I call 'patio containers' the plant itself is already elevated 2' above ground level. If the really tall ones reach their registered height, the blooms will be above my head and I used to be 6' when I was younger. The current level of my shrinkage allows me to get some tall ones, but not as tall as 'Sears Tower'. It always looks good in photos, though. The ones I've had in pots have reached or got close to their registered heights after the plants have been established for a year. I thought maybe they wouldn't do that growing in pots, but the preliminary indication is that they will.

I think Yellow daylilies taste YUMMY! I have tasted some of the other lighter colored daylilies too and they taste like lettuce. Some of the darker ones have a bitter taste.

Donald, my 'Sears Tower' has been in a 2-3 gallon pot for several years *Blush* , and it has never approached its registered height of 72" (6 feet). The height of the pot is maybe 10" or so, I am 5' 2", and I see the blooms pretty much eye-to-eye, so that would give it a height of 5' 4" at best. Of course, that spot in the garden does get a lot of shade, so that might factor into it. Confused

My husband is 6' 3"; here is a picture of him with the (potted) 'Sears Tower':

Thumb of 2015-03-07/Polymerous/38a554

edited to add:

I forgot to say that once 'Sears Tower' gets into bloom, I have always had to stake it as the scapes leaned and flopped. I don't know if it is because it is grown in a lot of shade, or if it behaves like that in full sun situations. So depending on how you support the scapes, the blooms would be at a lesser height, still.

Polymerous, they do lean. Even though mine is in a garden on the north side of the house it get quite a lot of late morning - afternoon sun. Mine in the picture are not staked but you can see the leaning action.

Sears Tower bud count last season was, 28,24,19 and 15. Those were the top four scapes counted.

That is a better bud count than I get; I get around 12-15. Time to get it out of the pot, and (maybe, some of it) out of the shade.
