I needed new fry pans so went to HOMEGOODS.
The wanting started as soon as I got in the door.
I found frypans
Then turning to go to bedding I ran into this display of plastic woven backets O M G They will make such great planters for the deck. the yellow is 13 inch dia, blue is 15 inch the long way.
$20.00 and $13.00.

There are smaller versions that might be great for succulents.

Nice find,..i am always on the search for containers,..these woven look are very nice and would fit in,..depending on colors of course,..i tend to go for terracotta,..black or green,..i have a few whites but they catch my eye too much so its a spray job come warmer weather.

I was attracted to the never rot plastic material and the fact the weave lets moisture out. These will most likely go in a shady spot with caladiums and impatiens.
If they dont look good I will paint the containers.

I liked the weave because it meant the planter would drain. I plan to cut holes in the bottom off a trash liner and insert it so there wont be too much drainage.

Yes drainage holes in the trash liner is perfect,..its a must here as we get too many days of rain,..i was very lucky to get two very tall containers for half price some time back,..i like to have highly scented flowers in them so i get the scent nearly at head level.

WOW Philip. That is just stunning I love the orange-red flowers in it. I shy from ceramic planters because they need to come into the garage for the winter.
We have The Christmas Tree Shoppes here and in spring they have nicely designed inexpensive fiber planters . I need to check the one here in April because their marketing plan is not to keep inventory for long,ie " when you see it buy it or it wont be here next time you come " I just detest it but what the heck.

Yep,..hate that not keeping the inventory for long,..buy one to see how it looks in the garden and it looks great,..so back to the shop for some more and out of stock.

Our winters are fairly mild so i seldom have to overwinter anything,..terracotta pots remain outside along with ceramic ones.

Oh i grew strongly scented Wallflowers in both tall containers,..one is a Variegated Wallflower,..it cascades down over the container.

That red container is stunning Phillip. What is growing in it? The contrast of lovely green leaves, then red blooms is so pretty.

What a bummer, I looked up Home Goods, the nearest one to me is about 2 hours away. Sad

Try calling the TJ Maxx in Salem and see if they have some of the Home Goods products. They are the same in some locations.

Hi Lynn,..both containers have Wallflowers,..the red is a dark red as shown below and has a very sweet scent it wafts throughout the garden,..the other plant is attractive due to the leaf being variegated though the blooms have a scent is mild,..Wallflowers are very easy to grow and to take cuttings from plus they come in many colors,..they can become leggy but pruning stops that.

not easy to get a tall container that one likes but i was lucky with mine as they never had them again,..they were hard to sell,..that's how i got them for half price.

Philip

Phillip that is even more beautiful close up. It looks to be Erysimum cheiri 'Blood Red'. It looks like it hasn't made it's way to the U.S. yet.

Marilyn it looks like our T.J. Maxx doesn't carry any garden type items.

Hi Lynn,
Yes you were correct about that Wallflower,..it is Erysimum cheri 'Blood Red'.

You planted the seed in my head,..go hunting for containers,..set off today looking to see would there be anything like your woven containers,..no such luck!,..however i did find ideal containers for my Hosta,..i had purchased some two years ago but never came across them since,..large container with a tray inside raised about three inches from the bottom so roots can get to the water below but not the soil,..plus a hole at the side of the container approx three inches from the bottom to allow excess water to flow out,..the plants thrived when i was away on holiday when there was no rain,..unusual for my area a long dry spell.

Nice find Jo Ann!! I prefer more natural colors or a pop of Royal Blue in the garden but I've been known to purchase something for the shape size and then paint it to a more preferable color and I love the looks of those baskets! I love HomeGoods, one of my favorite places to shop; I haven't been in awhile so I think I need to stop in there today or tomorrow to see if by chance they have any of those baskets like yours. I'd love to plant one with something pretty for my sister for Easter.

@glengarry23 Philip, your planters of Wallflowers are gorgeous! I've submitted proposals to have your photos moved to the database.
