Three times this year. It was on the ground around two weeks up until a week ago... I'm flipping over it. We probably won't be able to plant out till 2nd week of May, if this stuff continues.

All my Anthurium's are pouting in the greenhouse. Another few weeks and maybe I can unload - came real close to moving to Charlotte but this winter has convinced me that I don't want to go any farther north or west.

Lol .. actually I've just bought a bigger house in Summerville - closing is Tuesday. Gonna plunk a 16 - 20 foot greenhouse on it (can't make up my mind) .. anyone want to visit Charleston? I'm like a deer in the headlights .. the thought of moving my garden is giving me heart palpitations.

Ooh, Anne. I can't imagine packing up and moving. I thought it was you who did some extensive landscaping in your yard recently. How far is your new place from the current one? I say, Get the biggest greenhouse you can afford. I have friends who live in Summerville. I love it's southern charm and seeing the older homes and nicely landscaped yards. It's growing very fast, though. I know that you'll be happy at your new place. Is it close to town, or further out?

It's actually 1.5 miles from where I am now - way better neighborhood. I've picked up and moved 12 times in the last 45 years so I'm an expert at the house part .. this is the first time I'll be moving a garden. I've been here for 15 years.

I'm a basket case at this point. I can't move anything until the end of March. Thankfully most of it is in containers. The perennials in the ground are just starting to come up and I hate digging them up as it will probably abort this years blooms.

Take some divisions (if the cold soil will allow) of your perennials while they're still starting, Anne, and pot them up. Some of them will do fine as long as they don't dry out. You do want to leave some for the new owners of your old house, right? A shame to leave just craters . .

We did this with the garden at my daughter's house in Salt Lake City, let's see . . . August 2013. I thought the divisions would all die for sure, but we really had some nice stuff we didn't want to leave behind. Just about everything lived over the first winter in pots, and I planted them all out last spring. Most of them grew and bloomed just fine!

Drew, by L.A. I sure hope you mean Lower Alabama, and not Los Angeles! (most people don't know - we even call the Florida Panhandle "L. A." ) There's no water for gardening in Lost Angeles these days. People are moving away from there.

I'm glad that your new place is not far Anne from your current. Has your current house sold, or is it still in the market? Maybe the new owners will allow you to come back and retrieve some divisions later in the spring/year. I just hope that the new owners are gardeners and appreciate what you leave behind. Potting up divisions for yourself should not interfere with the original blooming. It sounds like a win-win situation to me. And if the potted ones bloom as well, that will be a worthy bonus. Smiling

MJ - do Anthurium's take kindly to root pruning? I need to repot all of mine as they've all been the same pots for a couple of years and could use some fresh soil.
