Planto -- I will take you word for it. Thanks.
I'm delighted it has some "babies". When could I, or should I, remove one or two and pot them ? Perhaps at the end of summer - by then those babies will be crowded in the pot, I'm thinking.

Orchid,
I'm not 100% sure on the name, but it definitely looks like a Parodia if I'm incorrect on the species. You don't have to remove the babies, nature doesn't and they survive just fine. It's personal preference really. I'm not sure how to go about removing the though.

@Planto -- I found out it's more likely Parodia warasil.

Orchidgal,
Thumbs up I knew it was a Parodia, but there's a few that look almost identical so I wasn't 100% sure on which species. P. magnifica, P. warasil, and P. leninghausii look so much alike (at least to me). Hilarious!

It sure looks happy! Are you planning on separating the babies?

Yes - I do want to separate the babies but not sure about the timing; after the bloom falls off the parent; end of summer or when ? A number of my "barrel" type cacti have babies so I will probably need to take care of them also.

I think that would depend on your weather. I would wait until at least Spring or when the sign of frost is far behind (Spring is the end of March, but for some it's still cold for another few weeks).

If it were me, I'd wait until about April, that would be warm enough and also give them enough time to produce roots long before Winter.

I don't know if growth hormone is a necessity, but if I remember correctly, it does have an anti-fungal in it so that would help keep them from rotting or developing something else before their roots produce and would also help with root production.

Thanks Planto. I will do this at the end of March which should be OK for where I live. Since I use cinnamon a lot when pruning, especially orchids (a lot of professional growers use this), I will sprinkle some on the babies' bottoms !!!

Orchidgal,
You're welcome. Smiling Please post a picture once you separate them and again once it's obvious they've rooted. I'm excited for you!
