Are these pics conclusive? Spotted yesterday near AL/FL border. TIA!

it looks like a native american wisteria Wisteria frutescens. the blooms are sort of cone shaped, denser then chinese wisteria.
it is not invasive (or perhaps not AS invasive in FL?), or at least can be kept in bounds, if pruned.
the blooms comeout after it leafs out, so later then chinese/japanese.

Since this is flowering early I would think it's the Asian type.
Did you stop long enough to look for a seed pod? The native type have smooth seed pods; the Asian one has fuzzy seed pods.

I wouldn't call this early for this area. Wisteria usually blooms along with dogwoods, Azaleas, Violets, which are also blooming now. This tree was at the top of a riverbank. The flat area on one side of it is mowed occasionally. On the other side of the trunk, totally wild and a steep drop down to the river. I looked around on the ground for other wild flowers to photograph, and didn't see any seed pods, they probably got mowed on the side where it is possible to walk around.

From reading the article below, leaning toward Chinese (sinensis.) It says Japanese (floribunda) has flower racemes that are 2-3 feet long, so it can't be that. It says American (frutescens) has full foliage when it blooms, so that seems to rule that one out. The foliage on the one I photographed was not fully formed yet.

I couldn't be more confused. Took more pics Tuesday. No hope of even seeing the main trunks, to see which way it twined:

If you can find a seed pod it would help with the ID. My eyes are old and feeble but it looks like a small seed pod is forming in one of the last batch of photos.

TYVM! I will try to locate some pods next month. If I take enough pics, at various times, I think a consensus can be reached, eventually. There's only about 5 possibilities. :+)
