I know that L. Regale has both female and male parts and will produce viable seeds.....that will produce flowers the growers says in 2 years ......not many flowers but some.. he said they take about the same time from seed as from scaling for this variety. anyone have any thoughts on this??

Does L. Regale Album do the same thing??

I ordered 10 of each this year
10 Regale and 10 regale Album

L. regale album produces seed and can be grown from seed. If it were me, I would start as many seeds of each as I could, and let nature weed out the ones least suited to my garden. ie. if I grow from seed I have the benefit of genetic variation and can select the individual plants that grow best for me in my garden. I can pick the ones with traits I like best too, and refresh my stock if they decline from virus, simply by sowing more seed from my favourite regale.

If I had one particular plant (raised from seed) I thought was special and wanted identical plants, then I would scale it.

edit: That is despite regale being reportedly apomictic - I would still prefer to raise from seed because I don't believe it is 100% apomictic 100% of the time.

Well, if you buy seed and plant it now, then in a couple of years you will have lots of healthy variation in your regales to choose from.

If you wait till autumn to harvest your own seed, then you won't be planting till next spring, so it will take a year longer to see flowers.

I'd do both! Hilarious!

(But wouldn't bother scaling anything till I had seen if the plant was what I really wanted to multiply, or was worried about losing the adult bulb.)

That's just one opinion - what do you want to achieve?

I am not sure where to buy Regale seeds up here in Canada or in Ontario to be specific.
but can check

doing both is a great idea

just trying to reproduce more of the Regales is what I want really..

well with L. Regale I will have 20 bulbs total to plant this year
and with L. Regale Album I will have 10
might just grab some seeds off in the fall and plant next spring from both of them from my own seeds

the lady that I bought these from said that they are growing wild in her grass.......she forgot to take off some of the seed heads and nature just did the rest......same as in the wild I guess...... not sure I want baby Regales growing all over my neighbourhood.............hahaha
she said not all the flowers will produce flower heads......she is thinking maybe only one or two of the Regale Flowers on the stem might do that.....
she was not sure what the album would do.......they were ordered from another lily breeder up here
