I have now bought the THIRD gazing ball that advertises 'glow in the dark' that doesn't... This over a period of several years. Has anyone else had this experience? I live in 'The Sunshine State' - it's not for lack of sun!

I don't have any gazing balls so no. I'm so sorry yours isn't glowing Have you contacted the company? I hope you find a resolution.

Suggestion, If you still have all 3 gazing balls, go to hardware dept. and get you the Krylon spray paint "Glowz". Make a spring project out of them and repaint them with the glowz paint, If you are artistic then you can get some of the rustoleum specialty glow in the dark luminous latex paint in different colors, and design some groovy outdoor splendors...Be sure to place them in direct sunlight for full effect...Good luck and take some pictures...

Just heard about magnetic paint too. How awesome is that? Just not for this purpose

Hetty, I bought that glow in the dark paint and wish I'd googled it first, as there were countless of disappointed customers on various websites Frankly, it's a load of c...! I live in the sunshine state too, but it doesn't work, unless there's a newer product out from early last year. I even emailed the manufacturer, who makes a fabulous spray paint for plastic; but no response from them.

Thanks for letting me know, Elfie. Sounds like the whole glow in the dark billing is a bit of a misnomer.

If we're talking about the same type of gazing ball where the swirls of green and blue are on the inside glass of the ball, my "glow in the dark" gazing ball slightly glowed for about a week and then nothing.
I must have purchased it about 5 years ago and it was not cheap. It still looks pretty and is sighted in full sun, but no glow at all.

Fortunately I didn't pay very much, but I know I returned one several years ago that had the same problem, that was a gift and DID cost a lot.

But this is NOT a spray paint.

If the ball uses a solar light, you might replace the battery. Solar lights are often sold with cheap batteries that won't recharge. The orange box store carries good batteries in the solar light display. Then give it a few days of bright sunlight.

Another idea, if the ball has an opening, find a solar light with the charger on a cord. The light goes inside the ball and the charger sits nearby. You can make your own gazing balls with these lights and glass or plastic light fixture globes.

And check your local resources for proper disposal of rechargeable batteries.

Very disappointing to me to read this (but I'm glad I did). I've had my eye on those "glow in the dark" gazing balls for a while now...

Last summer DH put a little solar hummingbird stake that my sister-in-law gave me out in the flower garden and all summer I was wondering why it wasn't lighting up (although, to be brutally honest, there were so many weeds that I thought maybe I just couldn't see it from the house...). Then it turned out that he had neglected to slide the on-off switch to "on"

I have several of those little solar stakes and they last pretty well. There are some out back that have been out year-round for 3 or 4 years and they're still "glowing" strong. But I also have some that died after a year, too. These were really cheap: a box of 3 from Harbor Freight on sale for $13.95 a box.

I have tried the Martha Stewart glow in the dark paint
Waste of money, even with several coats........no glow
So on the pot I painted with it, I put glow in the dark duct tape on it
Worked great

I just put a stripe with the tape

I was given a glow in the dark gazing globe/wind spinner. It has never glowed at all, and we have plenty of sunshine.
