This showed up in my yard. It kind of looks like poke weed (i think thats the name), but the poke weed I have on the other side of the backyard has a reddish stem and this does not. Any ideas? Thanks, Lynne

It does to me, as well. Are the stems and leaves hairy?

The stems and leaves are hairy. I do have a bird feeder in the backyard so it could be sunflowers.

Very common for it to happen. I kept mine and the birds flock to them.

Hi Lynne, here is a link from the LBJ Wildflower center on Physalis (ground cherry, tomatillo, etc) for comparison.

The plant is nearly 2 feet tall and the leaves are about 6x8 inches. I checked the ground cherry - it seems to be smaller than this. Am leaning towards sunflower, but could be convinced otherwise.
