I just finished photographing 32 new mounted orchids and have those photos downloaded on my computer. Now I have to upload them all onto my website with descriptions. It seems to take me forever to get anything done, and I put off this photography as long as I possibly could. A doc who has bought some blooming size orchids from me wanted to purchase a good many mounted ones and that got me in gear. I already need a vacation. Sighing!

Me, I've been converting the last of my traditional sprinkler heads to micro-sprinklers, so I've got both of you beat - I'm filthy, beat and broke.

Oh, and DH sent in our taxes with a big fat cheque yesterday, too . . . Blinking Sticking tongue out

I am so impressed Elaine; that is a huge job. I use drip irrigation on all my containers but changing out the larger system is daunting to me.

I just coughed up more than a grand for a sprinkler company to fix a pressure problem, adjust the zones, move sprinklers to avoid plant blockage and replace about 80 percent of my heads. They did a great job and I'm pleased. Broke but not filthy here in Odessa.

How about filthy-broke? I am not quite sure where that term came from, but my dad always said that he was filthy-broke.

Our place is too small for any Sprinkler heads, so I am not broke. Smiling But I would be happier if this darn cooling trend would discontinue, I am slowly getting disenchanted looking at sleet again, on the last day on March no less!!

Ah, but you have that wonderful sunroom. I am not much further along than I was two weeks ago. Some preliminary plans and nothing more. Still have no clue as to the cost so everything is just on hold. Sighing!

Tax time is one thing I always postpone as long as possible...and I always get money back. I guess when I depended on that, I got it done early, but now it seems the IRS has some kind of issues every year, so I wait for them to fix it. Lord knows, I don't want to do that twice! I guess it' time. Sighing!

Alice, I have to sheepishly admit that my sprinkler conversion has been a work in progress for at least 5 years. *Blush*

I've converted the whole yard inside the fence into gravel pathways, mulch and perennials. All the lawn has been gone for years, but the old sprinklers have been watering the pathways and mulch as I fixed one area per season. This week I realized I only had 3 sprinkler heads to go, and it was going to finally be Done! The digging is the toughest part, especially in the gravel pathways. We had some cool weather bless us, so I got 'er done.

Once you've dug down to the attachment, it's really pretty simple. Lowe's has little caps with micro adaptors on them, so you just dig down around the old head, unscrew it, attach a riser to the right height and screw on one of those adaptors. Then fit the micro tubing onto the cap, and place your little sprinklers where they will do the most good. You can get caps with one, two or four tubing attachments. I always use four, luckily I have really great water pressure.

I just really like the flexibility of the micro system because I'm constantly changing stuff in my garden. I put in emitters that can be turned off and adjusted to cover small or large areas, too.

I got rudely uprooted from my re-potting project tonight because hubby saw the lightening storm coming in. I was just going to ride it out happily re-potting away. He was having none of that. So I am irritated and beat. I wanted to get my project done and then take photos. Thumbs down

LOL, what's a little lightning among gardeners?

Elaine, how do you get the live oak leaves off the gravel? The past few years we have had epic leaf drops. Right now we are blowing the driveway two times a day, it is crazy how bad it is. Between the pine straw and the live oak leaves we are in a mess.

We did not get any of that weather here, Melissa. It got cloudy and windy late afternoon and I thought that weather was coming in, but nothing.

It was a total dud here, Ken. One short storm and then nada. By then I had lost my momentum and I went to bed. Sticking tongue out

I wish I had some "momentum", Melissa.

I went out to get the papers at 6:30 AM and it looked like Ole Faithful had sprung up in my flower bed. Water was running down the street. This was not the way I wanted to start my day. Sighing! I called the city "services" department, told them I had a huge leak at or near my meter and to have a crew come out ASAP. The crew showed up around 7:30 and said they would have to dig up two huge landscape bushes that were on either side of the meter. That did not make me happy. I just said do your best to salvage those bushes. Anyway, the crew got in with their backhoe and did manage (I think) to save the bushes. Don't ask me why the meters (one house, one irrigation system) were put square-dab in the middle of the side-bed. Sticking tongue out I even asked the crew-chief whether they might be able to move the meters 2-3 feet while they were here (to the edge of the bed), but he said the city manager would have to tell them to do that. Anyway, the house meter was removed and they found it was cracked. A new one was installed and we are back in business. The meter was probably made in China! Whistling

Wow, what a shocker, Ken. But at 7:30am you got some great service from the city!

Oak leaves and especially the evil little flowers really get into the gravel, but I have a new tool that has "Changed My Life" - a rechargeable leaf blower! It's small and light, and I don't have to fuss with a cord every time I want to go out and clean the pathways. So I just pick it up and happily blow everything away - the paths do get done just about every day now. One battery takes me all the way around the house if there's not a lot of stuff. It takes two batteries to do the front driveway, but they fit in my pocket so I can change out and keep blowing. I did the gutters and the roof with it last weekend, too!

Home Depot carries them. We have the Milwaukee 18 volt system, as DH the mad engineer is a convinced Milwaukee fan. The batteries run a whole range of other tools too. DH recently gave me a reciprocating saw (like a Sawzall, but again smaller and lighter with no cord) that runs with the same batteries, and Yikes! Am I ever getting lots of pruning done now!

We use those same lightweight tools Elaine. There are usually at least 6 batteries on the chargers in our garage. We have and frequently use all the attachments like the weed whacker, small chain saw on the long pole, hedger, etc. Love 'em.

Ken I can relate. Here in the SC Lowcountry the grand old Live Oaks are revered and it is against the law to take them down so when they built our neighborhood back in the 80's they had to run the water and other utilities this way and that to avoid the massive roots. None of the lines are where they are supposed to be. Now they are installing fiber optic cable in our neighborhood and as they tunnel through they regularly break water and sewer lines because they are not where the books say they are. Those geysers are a common occurrence on our street these days. Late Saturday night we heard a racket and found a huge sewer vacuum truck on our cul de sac. They were back with a back hoe on Sunday tearing up a neighbor's front garden. On Monday they were repairing the holes they made in the street and people's driveways. It has been a mess. So far, just on our street, the sewers have been compromised 5 times and the water and telephone lines too many times to count. They still have to tunnel in the other direction, under our driveway, etc. I may need drugs to survive it. Smiling

This "lawn ornament" decorated the front of our property for 3 weeks. The big hole which is about 4" x 4" x 4' is still there. I did put a mosquito dunk in the water.
