I was using Wind. XP till a few days ago and I was using Microsoft Power Toy - Image Resizer which was so convenient to resize the image to ease uploading/downloading. Now I can't tell how badly I miss it now that I have Windows 8 for the new CPU I bought. That old resizer had the lovely facility of just right-clicking on the image where the pop-up list showed resizer from where we would directly resize. I'm now looking for an equally convenient tool for this purpose. Any help please?

Yes Larry. I have W/8. After I posted that help post, I too further searched and came across Photo Gallery. I think it is the one I'm going to try, now that you are also using it. Thanks Larry. I used the old computer for 8 years with XP. It was time for a change and also to get a lot of disk space - 1TB.

I use IrfanView for resizing, scrolling through, and cropping. It also has a batch resize feature that's fantastic - in that it takes FOREVER, it seems, to upload an 8-12GB photo to this site...but if I batch-resize (to the site limit of 1000pixels wide) a pile of stuff I'm going to post (I'm afraid I'm a little infamous for my "walls" of photos in threads/the blog, they load nearly immeasurably faster (a bit of a hyperbole).

It's a neat program and is isn't a resource hog like 99pct of the other photo programs out there.

I use IrfanView to insert text, but prefer Photo Gallery for resizing and editing.

Yeah, it's pretty brutal for editing. And as far as inserting text goes, I finally figured out how to have it insert EXIF data in the corner of a shot. That's really useful to me when I'm looking at a ton of them and trying to figure out what I've done - and why I like what I like.

Dino, a picture resizer which behaves like the one you know from XP is Image Resizer for Windows, it embeds itself in the drop down menu when you right click on a picture.

GIMP is free to download and is an amazing software, comparable to Photoshop - http://www.gimp.org/
Here's a tutorial to show you how to resize in GIMP, very simple - http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/...

Only for MAC users there is a free program called Affinity Photo - https://affinity.serif.com/en-...

Paint Shop Pro is an exceptional photo editing software very comparable to Photoshop but with an easier learning curve. I have been using PSP since the first version and it is a great software.

I have found with IrfanView that the quality of image deteriorates too much. I'm l using on and off, Microsoft's Office Picture Manager, then compress the image to documents size. But I have to do it one by one. Even with FastStone, quality suffers a bit. This is my observation. GIMP.. I guess is only free to download and usable up to a short period and then it asks the user to buy, is that right?
