I was going to ask if we were going to make a thread for the April blooms. My first daylily bloom will probably be open tomorrow.

Nice pattern Betty! Thank you for starting an April bloom thread. Thumbs up
Been looking forward all winter to seeing images of your new daylilies blooming Jon.
We're still frozen, a few labels starting to poke through the snow and ice in the warmer spots of the garden, 17f this morning with snow in the forecast again for Saturday. Thumbs down It will be a few more months before we have blooms up here.

Thank you - it was a gift plant from the Trimmers, and I really like it. Can't wait to see your blooms, Jon! And I'm sorry you still have snow, Char.

Betty, I was just wondering if your city is experiencing moderate or severe drought? Hoping your plants don't suffer and wishing lots of rain for Californians.

We have severe drought all over the central valley, and the governor just announced a mandated 25% reduction in water usage. But we do have the Kern River here so we're not in an immediately horrible situation like those in the western half of the San Joaquin Valley. But I've already cut way back and have three good-sized beds designated for seedlings that last year I just turned off the water to, and I'm leaving them empty. We're going to only be able to water twice a week, and in our 100+ degree summer days no one thinks that will be enough.

I'm getting those saucers for all my pots that I have on tables, plus I'm going to stick pots between all the plants in my oriental garden and flower beds -- and heavy mulching! But if this drought continues I may just have to give up daylilies -- terrible thought, but a frighteningly real possibility now. I'm already at the point where I don't want to give up any of the 700 that I have, so I can't even imagine the tough decisions that probably lie ahead -- but they said last week that California only has enough water in reservoirs and the water table for one more year...

I sure wish they would think about building big water pipelines from the east to California so we could make use of all that extra water people back east have been getting!
Betty

My sister and I were talking about that very thing Betty. We need water pipelines to help the drought stricken areas. There are many places that have more than enough water.

Betty - Your first blooms are gorgeous! The drought situation is just heartbreaking. And the water rationing situation is going to be very tough.

Great first bloom Betty and Jon, still a few days away here and the first may be a seedling, which is normal for us. Hate the water problem, when we in the east usually have to much.

Blossom,
I would think you would be more like a 7b zone where you are, I am in zone 8b and we have not had frost for a while now. Now daylily blooms yet, but I do have a few scapes.

Arlene - Love those blooms! I have a real fondness for Dragonfly Dawn, though I don't actually have that daylily. But I do have some seedlings from it! Beautiful, beautiful! I am seeing scapes on maybe 10% of mine so far. My show for some reason doesn't go into full swing until May. I must have mostly mid-season bloomers!

Wow, Dragonfly Dawn looks much better than mine! Hoping the pattern improves this year.
Or at least makes seedlings as nice Becky's.
