I have a old bathroom sink and want to make a simple water pond. In my mind I am thinking I just fill it with rain
water from my barrels and put in some floating lilies and that`s that. Is it that simple? Also is it easy to find
water pond plants at my local nursery? Any tips for a beginner?

It's a bit on the small side, so it'll be hard to grow something like lilies. There are some miniature plants and probably some floaters that will work. Make sure you take into account mosquito control and keeping it topped up. Hopefully some others here will have more specific recommendations.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

definitely not enough water or deep enough for a water lily. You could probably grow water hyacinth.

There are many top floaters that should work. Water lettuce comes to mind.
Mosquito dunks will keep them out.
