I enjoy reading your blog, Annie. It's always good for a grin, and our gardens are on the same sort of time frame...but I'd love to see it too! Do you have pictures of your daffodils to share?

Oh god, pictures. Hilarious! Ask Seedfork. I am soo bad with a camera chelle, I have got to the point where I dread (PHYSICALLY DREAD) even trying to snap a pic. I keep saying I'll do it, but it never happens. Seedfork (Larry) is trying to "talk me through it" but we're not making much progress. Shrug!

Ooo I just see you have "rock gardens" as your new interest. I sort of fell into rock gardening...my property is on a slope and at the top, there's an outcropping of limestone....at first, I worked hard to cover this up with soil then one day "lightning struck" and instead I dug it out! Huge smooth slabs of limestone with cracks and fissures all through them, lying at about a 30 degree angle...not so steep you can't plant in it. I' started out with very basic stuff...sedums, some thyme, but I'd like to try some more unusual alpines.

Well, maybe someday then. Smiling

Heh-heh...yeah, rock gardening with alpines comes along with a pretty steep learning curve here, I think, but I'm still looking forward to experiencing the process. I'm running maybe 50/50 with what I planted in it last fall. By that I mean that I see signs of life on about half of it now. I'm still hopeful for the rest, but a lot of these are early season plants, so you'd think they'd be doing something by now. I am tickled to see that all of the seedlings I started last year made it through winter okay. The ones that are iffy are mature plants that I ordered in last fall.

The east end is mostly hugel bed/stumpery with rock overlay, and it's looking pretty good considering it's in its first spring.

The west end is trickier due to a number of factors, but I'll keep on working with it.

It still needs a lot of bigger rocks and a little more "dressing-up" to suit me, so I'll add to it whenever I'm able.

Looks beautiful! I know what you mean 50/50...I'm still keeping my fingers crossed on a number of plants to see if they've come thru that brutal winter.
